There are some really sick people out there. What is being described as a scene straight out of a scary movie is unfolding in Long Island, NY's Selden community. Sharon McDonough, 43, has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities uncovered a mass burial site for animals in her backyard. Saturday night investigators found a backyard burial ground, with the remains of at least 20 animals, behind her house. The remains were brought out in black plastic bags. This is being called a "concentration camp" for dogs. What is equally shocking is that the woman lived in the home with her seven children.
It all started Thursday, when a local rescue group, tipped off by McDonough's eldest son, Douglas about the conditions at the home, contacted police about the conditions at McDonough's house. Five dogs, who were crammed in small cages and appeared to be in danger, were recovered. That discovery triggered an investigation that eventually led to the backyard. Investigators are now looking into complaints about animals disappearing from neighborhoods and allegations that McDonough tortured, killed and buried them behind her house.
At the present time, McDonough is only facing misdemeanor animal cruelty charges for the dogs found inside her home on Thursday. She's free from jail Sunday night after pleading not guilty, but authorities have said she could face more serious charges after investigators determine how the animals buried in the backyard died.
Where is PETA? They came out in droves when Michael Vick was accused of funding a dogfighting operation, but it seems they are no where to be found over this "concentration camp" for dogs atrocity.
