URGENT: New York High School Under Lockdown, Gunman, Identified as Christopher Craft, Taken Into Custody by State Police

URGENT: Dutchess County Sheriff's Department said Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains, New York, is under lockdown and police are on the scene. State police are responding to "an incident" of a gunman, identified as Christopher Craft, a Pine Plains resident, in the school, who is negotiating with police.

Craft held the middle school principal Bob Hess hostage in a single room at the school. He reportedly attended the school in the 1980s. CNN is reporting that the gunman is a parent of a student at the school and is now in police custody.

The district's Web site states the middle and high building includes grades six to 12. The high school enrollment is about 400 students and middle school includes about 270 students.  Pine Plains is about 90 miles north of New York City.
