Abby Johnson, Director of Bryan Planned Parenthood in Texas, Resigns Position After Watching Ultrasound of Abortion Procedure

Abby Johnson, the director of Bryan Planned Parenthood in Texas, has resigned from the position after she watched an ultrasound of an abortion procedure. She has worked for Planned Parenthood for eight years, with the last two being as a director. She said that Planned Parenthood was struggling due to the challenging economy and its changing business model from one that pushed prevention to one that focused on abortion. Most Americans do not want to donate to a non-profit that is encouraging abortions. The money should be for prevention and planned parenthood, not abortion. I, too, have a big problem with that.

According to KBTX, Johnson said she was told to bring in more women who wanted abortions, something the Episcopalian church goer recently became convicted about. She now supports the Coalition For Life, the pro-life group with a building down the street from Planned Parenthood.

I applaud Ms. Johnson for taking a stand for what she believes in. Government funding to Planned Parenthood should cease if her allegations about pushing for more abortions than prevention are true. I don't want my tax dollars going to fund something I don't agree with, especially if this is being used by some women as a form of birth control and not due to serious health risks to both the mother and the fetus. This is a hotly debated issue and, while I tend to agree with Pro-Lifers, I still don't think the government should get involved in such issues. It's amazing that the mainstream media outlets, like CNN and MSNBC, didn't bother picking this story up, but they had no issue running with the "balloon boy" hoax.
