NYC Deputy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith Reportedly Resigned Over Arrest for Domestic Violence Against his Wife, Margaret Goldsmith

Former NYC deputy mayor Stephen Goldsmith abruptly resigned last month due to arrest for domestic violence against wife, Margaret Goldsmith, in their exclusive Washington D.C. home.

SHAME: Former New York City deputy mayor Stephen Goldsmith resigned last month and we now know why -- for domestic violence. He was reportedly arrested last month for assaulting his wife, Margaret Goldsmith, who complained to authorities about domestic violence. We are the Hinterland Gazette are pretty vocal about incidents involving domestic violence and we will continue to report on these cases because it is important for victims to know the signs when they see them and to realize they are not alone. Domestic violence cuts across socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. It doesn't matter whether you are a chemist, a doctor, a teacher or a cashier, it can still rear its ugly head in your home.
Mayor Bloomberg's operations chief claimed at the time that he stepped down to move to the more 'flexible' private sector so he could provide a 'secure foundation' for his family's future. Just days before the announcement, however, he reportedly was seized by police at his home in Georgetown, Washington DC, after his wife Margaret complained to authorities about domestic violence.
Mrs Goldsmith allegedly told police an argument spun out of control, culminating in her desperately trying to call 911 as he smashed a phone and and violently grabbed her. As they shouted at each other at their lavish home on the evening of July 30, Margaret, 69, is said to have screamed: 'I should have put a bullet through you years ago'.
The former deputy mayor, 64, then shoved [Margaret into] the kitchen counter,' according to the police report. 'You're not going to do this to me again, I'm calling the police,' she is said to have added. The report goes on to detail how Mr Goldsmith 'grabbed the phone from her hands and threw it onto the ground, breaking the phone. He then grabbed [Margaret] and refused to let her go. Mrs. Goldsmith reportedly refused medical attention, but her husband was charged with simple assault domestic violence. It's reprehensible that the mayor's office would try to cover up this mess.
