NMSP Officer Caught on Video Having Sex on Hood of Car Identified as Bert Lopez, 8 Year Veteran of Force

The New Mexico state police officer caught on video having sex with a woman on the hood of a car, while he was dressed in his police uniform, has been identified as Bert Lopez, an eight year veteran of the force. Investigators have said Lopez did not commit any crimes and won't be prosecuted. He will still be subject to disciplinary action, however. The photos, which went viral, were taken by a security camera at the out of the way Canyon Ranch, which is owned by Santa Fe county.

State police are not releasing the officer's name, but News 13 has learned it's Bert Lopez. The 8-year vet was state police officer of the year in the Santa Fe district in 2010. Even though state police won't confirm it's him, NMSP Sgt. Tim Johnson did tell News 13 that Lopez is currently, “On administrative leave.” Johnson wouldn't say if the officer was officially on duty but did say “An employee who did something like this in uniform would be considered on duty.” Source

They are real tight-lipped about his marital status as well. If he's married, well, his marriage will most definitely be in jeopardy as well. Tacky, tacky, tacky. If anything, he should be fired for his behavior. That leaves one to wonder how many times has he or other officers engage in this type of behavior.

UPDATE#1 (09/03/11): Bert Lopez has been fired from his job as a state police officer. He has 30 days to appeal the firing.
