Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris, Who Declared Glenn Beck Day Two Years Ago, Called Racist for Asking State to Deny Mexican Brothers Liquor License

Mount Vernon, WA, mayor Bud Norris called racist by white man, Brian Hill, for asking the state to deny a liquor license to two Mexican brothers while recommending approval to Asian restaurant one block away.

Is Mount Vernon, Wash., mayor Bud Norris a racist for asking the state to deny a liquor license to two Mexican brothers -- Carlos and Edgar Carreon, while granting approval to one to an Asian restaurant just down the street? You may remember Bud Norris from the controversy he caused two years ago when he declared a Glenn Beck Day in his city and brought the wingnut talk-show host to the city. He said he is anything but "racist" and was "stung by the accusations." Um, has a racist ever admitted to being just that, a racist?
The local newspaper pointed out recently that Norris had the Spanish word for "library" removed when the town library's sign was replaced, and had Spanish options removed from its telephone system. And Norris has never minced his opinion that English should be the official language of the city. It has not sat well in a city that, according to the U.S. Census, is one-third Hispanic. He said he was thinking of reversing his decision about the liquor license, but doesn't want to appear he gave in to people who "storm a council meeting."
About 50 people showed up last week to the City Council meeting, presided over by Norris. The 66-year-old mayor got to hear from the likes of Brian Hill whose voice was palpable with rage: "I've been a longtime critic of Czar Norris. There is one word I have never, ever used in my critique of him ... I can no longer do it. You, sir, are a racist." Source: Seattle Times
Never mind the fact that the Carreon brothers' family already owns three other Mexican restaurants in Washington, so they have some experience in this business. It's pretty damning that Bud Norris was called a racist by a white man, Brian Hill.
