Golden State Warriors coach & pastor Mark Jackson seeks to clarify relationship with alleged drug kingpin Warren Braithwaite, who also serves as an usher at California church he founded with wife Desiree Coleman Jackson.
Former NBA great and current Golden State Warriors coach
Pastor Mark Jackson is clarifying his relationship with alleged drug kingpin and usher at his church,
Warren Braithwaite. Jackson says there is a distinction between his job as coach and pastor in relation to Braithwaite, who attends the church he founded with his wife,
Desiree Coleman Jackson,
True Love Worship Center International, in Van Nuys, Calif.
When Jackson walks down the center aisle of the church to take the pulpit on Sundays, Braithwaite flanks him like a secret service agent. When Jackson was introduced to the Bay Area at his first news conference as the Warriors' coach, Braithwaite was his guest. "In fairness to me, as a pastor, I'm going to be linked to drug dealers, drug addicts, liars and fornicators," Jackson said. "The church is a place for sick people to be healed. I'm going to help them, but I'm not going to co-sign on their troubles." Braithwaite, who also has ties to actor/singer Jamie Foxx, is being accused of masterminding a multimillion-dollar international drug cartel, according to Star.
The report says Braithwaite was arrested June 14 in a five-state DEA sting that dismantled a drug ring responsible for the distribution of up to 10,000 pounds of marijuana - worth more than $8 million. He was booked at the Maricopa County (Ariz.) Jail on June 23 and pleaded not guilty to all charges June 29. Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Can a day ever go by when we don't hear something popping off with a pastor or just plain drama in the news? Mark Jackson is right that he doesn't have to know what this man does on his own time. He's his pastor, but when he accompanies the pastor to the extent the newspaper article tries to imply, then this man should be in show business because he's a heck of an actor. Just saying about Braithwaite, that is.....
