Pedro Juan Ocacia Alcazar, who has a lengthy criminal history, being held on $300,000 bail in deaths of six people after his vehicle causes accident on interstate highway Friday.
It is a sad commentary that a career criminal, with an extensive history of traffic violations, was still allowed to operate a vehicle on our streets, until he caused a horrific accident that took the lives of six members of one family, who were on their way to Jacksonville, Fla., from Lawrenceville, Ga. Pedro Juan Ocacia Alcazar has been charged with six counts of vehicular homicide in connection with the accident. According to Channel 2 Action News, Alcazar's extensive criminal record includes charges ranging from unsafe driving, driving with a suspended license, battery and drug charges. Why wasn't this man's license revoked?Police said Melissa L. Mitchelle, 39; Miya Mitchell, 11; four year-old twin brothers Christian and Keyshawn Perry; Brenda Mitchell Edwards; 57, and Dhanja Mitchell, 16, were killed when their rental van was clipped by Alcazar, who was speeding. The vehicle was sent into a median, where it was hit by a pickup truck. It's so sad because Brenda Mitchell Edwards and her family were on their way to celebrate the release of her son from prison, police said.
Alcazar is being held in the Nassau County Jail on $300,000 bail. Er, considering the fact that he has an extensive criminal history, the bail guidelines under which his bail was set, should allow for a much larger bail. He deserves to be held on over $1 million because of the gravity of the situation. He should be treated like a repeat offender and there should be zero tolerance.
