For those of you who care, Barry Bonds is in the news again and he has another problem on his hands. It seems that his second wife, Liz Watson has filed for a legal separation from the disgraced slugger. The couple have been married since 1998. The separation papers, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, cite "irreconcilable differences" and request spousal support and joint custody of 10-year old daughter Aisha Lynn. I hate to see any marriage break up, but if it's a nightmare and not working out, then the best thing is a separation to see if the union can be salvaged. I would venture to guess that Bonds' ego got in the way.
I guess his wife just couldn't deal with the drama that seems to follow this man. He was mixed up with a woman who came forward and claimed that they had a longstanding relationship while he was married. You know, she was a "clean-up woman." You will recall that he bragged about the strength of his marriage in a People magazine interview just weeks after his 2007 indictment on charges he lied to a federal grand jury investigating steroid use among athletes. Yeah, just how committed was she to you and all your crap?
Bonds, 44, and Watson, 39, got together after Bonds' nasty divorce from first wife Susann (Sun) Branco in 1994. According to the NY Daily News, "it took six years for California courts to rule in Bonds' favor over a prenuptial agreement that denied Branco a share of her ex's fortune. Branco, a Swedish immigrant, argued she did not understand the contract, signed a day before their 1988 wedding." So, for his sake, I hope he's ready to get in the mud once again, if this woman decides to play tough. So, not only was his baseball record a fraud, so too was his second marriage.
