Calvin Klein Billboard In SoHo Creates Controversy, Shows Four Models in Sexually Suggestive Positions

Designer Calvin Klein has always pushed the envelope, but this is ridiculous. I first posted the picture on Twitter yesterday to show my readers how degrading this latest racy billboard is. Sarah Palin is hooting and hollering about David Letterman's comments about her daughter, which were in poor taste, but where's the outrage for this latest billboard and its obviously degrading portrayal of a young woman? As a former New Yorker, I have seen many billboards, but this one has definitely been the most racy in my opinion. As you can see, the billboard features four partially clad models in a sexually suggestive position. If the intent of the billboard is to catch your eye, then it did way more than that. No parent wants to go down the street and stare at that with their children in tow. It is just plain gross. Exactly what does this picture have to do with selling jeans? Nothing we didn't already know. This isn't going to exactly cause people to run out and buy more Calvin Klein jeans or perfume, for that matter. It's despicable and in poor taste.

The billboard uses sex to sell Calvin Klein jeans, and it is not the first time – remember Brooke Shields, then 15 years old, saying "You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing," ad? Personally, I think this is an act of desperation on the part of Calvin Klein and his company. The Calvin Klein brand doesn't seem as relevant today as it was in years gone by. Too much competition. I guess this comes down to raising eyebrows and getting publicity. Asked about the message in the ad, a Calvin Klein spokesman said the "intention was to create a very sexy campaign that speaks to our targeted demographic." Now, that's a scary response. So, the targeted demographics engages in three- or foursomes? Crazy
