Stephen Mark McDaniel Charged with Murder in Death of Mercer U Law Student Lauren Giddings, Blamed Death on "Macon Hoodlums"

Stephen Mark McDaniel has been charged with murder in the death of Mercer University law student Lauren Giddings, whose dismembered torso was found in a trash can near her apartment building. The two lived in the same apartment building in Macon, across the hallway from each other.

On the day Giddings' body was found outside her Macon apartment, McDaniel described his classmate as "as nice a person as could be ... "

"I don't know why anyone would do this," a visibly distraught McDaniel said to reporters outside the Barrister Hall apartment complex.

Late Tuesday the Bibb County District Attorney charged McDaniel, an aspiring prosecutor, with the murder of Giddings, 27. The 25-year-old's mother told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's reporting partner, Channel 2 Action News, her son is innocent.

"The truth will come out," Glenda McDaniel said. "We have information concerning who did do it. The D.A.'s office has been told." Source
Seems to me that the police are dealing with one sick person, if he can do this to this woman and then play the role of someone who is grief-stricken. He even suggested to police that they should search for "Macon hoodlums," who had previously tried to break into her apartment. That's ironic considering he was incarcerated shortly after her torso was discovered on two counts of burglary, unrelated to her case. Um, who's the hoodlum the police should be looking at? Stephen Mark McDaniel!
