The death of Kojo Minta, a 24 year old Oxford University graduate from Sugar Land, TX, has left a void in the hearts of many. According to the Houston Chronicle, Minta drowned in the Gave d'Oloron river in southwest France, located near the border with Spain on August 10th.
Minta reportedly lost his footing as he walked along the banks with two Oxford friends, who tried to save him. News of the accidental death was reported across the French and British press. Minta was under water for about 20 minutes before he was recovered. A doctor tried for an hour to resuscitate him.

Kojo Minta accomplished so much in his short life. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a master's degree in history from Oxford. He is survived by his parents, a sister and a brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. If more young black men could aspire to a quarter of what this young man accomplished, our community would be in a better place.
