Reggae superstar Buju Banton found guilty of drug charges during second trial, faces 15 years in prison.
Jamaican reggae superstar Buju Banton was found guilty on three of four drug charges. He faces 15 years in prison. Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was found guilty Tuesday after the jury deliberated for 11 hours over two days. You will recall his first trial ended in a mistrial last year after the jury was deadlocked. His attorney plans to appeal.Buju Banton was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense and using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offense. Sad, sad turn of events.
They got him the second time around. Buju was fighting an uphill battle with the charges. The bottom line is that he should have never found himself in such a position. He had far too much to lose and he fell for it hook, line and sinker. Buju has no one to blame but himself. I like his music, with the exception of the homophobic "Boom Bye Bye." He was stupid for getting mixed up in this mess and has to suffer the consequences.
