First Lady Michelle Obama Says Facebook "Isn't Something Her Kids Need"

First Lady Michelle Obama doesn't think Facebook is a good outlet for young kids.

First Lady Michelle Obama doesn't think that Facebook is such a good place for young kids. During an interview on NBC's Today Show Wednesday, she said she's happy her daughters -- Sasha & Malia -- aren’t using the popular social networking platform. Of course, they aren't allowed to use it for security purposes and she isn't too concerned about them missing out. Well, I am inclined to agree with her. My youngest son is 9 and he doesn't have a Facebook account and won't be allowed to do so for a long time. My oldest son is 13 and I allowed him to have a Facebook account that I closely monitor on a daily basis.
“I’m not a big fan of young kids having Facebook,” Obama said on NBC’s Today Show Wednesday. President Obama is also aware of the perils of social networking. Speaking to students in a Virginia high school, Obama also warned the kids about Facebook, telling them to be “careful about what (they) post on Facebook” as it will be “pulled up again later somewhere in (their) life.” Source: Mashable
So, here we are in the midst of another dustup of sorts over what Mrs. O said. But she is right and I wish more parents would see it from her point of view. One of my son's friends, in a jocular manner, called him a nigger. I immediately deleted the comment and told him I would have him unfriend this kid if it ever happened again. I also told him that he must be careful of what he puts on his Facebook page as well because it can follow you and pop up later in life.
