The rate of foreclosure filings in 2010 among 163 ZIP codes near military bases rose 32 percent over 2008, according to RealtyTrac, a foreclosure research firm. This compares with a 2010 increase in foreclosure filings nationally of 23 percent over 2008. The housing crisis has hit military families particularly hard in part because of transfers and the loss of civilian jobs left behind by reservists. When are we going to treat military families better? This a sad commentary and should not happen. We continue to hear horror stories about the VA hospitals, among other things. When I hear Sarah Palin and all the other self-righteous politicians acting as though they have a firm grasp on the issues confronting Americans, I just shake my head. I have yet to hear or see any other so-called politicians propose any solutions to the problems confronting military families, much less people on Main Street who continue to lose their homes to foreclosure while the people on Wall Street are having a blast.

More Than 20,000 Veterans, Active-Duty Troops & Reservists Lost Homes to Foreclosure 2010
It is a sad commentary that many veterans and active-duty troops and their families are losing their homes to foreclosure, after giving their lives to fighting for their country. According to the Tennessean, more than 20,000 veterans, active-duty troops and reservists who took out special government-backed mortgages have lost their homes last year to foreclosure. That's the highest number since 2003.
