Houston home day care operator Jessica Tata flees to Nigeria after fire claims lives of four children, Shomari Dickerson, Elizabeth Kojah, Kendyll Stradford and Elias Castillo.

SHAME: Jessica Tata, the operator of a Houston home day care center that, has fled the country and is back in her native country of Nigeria. Why you might ask? Well she was charged with reckless injury to a child, Shomari Dickerson, one of four children who died in a fire at the day care. Three other children were injured in the fire last week. A warrant has been issued for Tata's arrest and bond is set at $500,000. Could someone please tell me why this woman was not under police surveillance the minute it was discovered that her recklessness led to the deaths of the children. She reportedly left Dickerson and six other toddlers alone to go to the grocery store, according to KHOU.

The toddlers who lost their lives in the fire are 20-month-old Elizabeth Kojah, 20-month-old Kendyll Stradford or 18-month-old Elias Castillo. What a tragedy. I hope the Nigerian government will hand Jessica Tata over to U.S. authorities. She betrayed the families who left their children in her care. I am pretty sure this wasn't the first time she left the children alone. A pot of oil left on the stove is thought to be the cause of the fire.

I would love to know how she paid for her ticket to Nigeria, if it was a one-way trip and why is there a bond. There should be no bond. She is a fugitive. If her mother or another relative helped her to get out of the country, warrants should be issued for their arrests. This is a travesty. Here's another question, was this day care approved by the city of Houston?

Senior ESPN Writer Howard Bryant Arrested for Domestic Assault on Estranged Wife & Hitting a Police Officer

ESPN writer Howard Bryant arrested in front of Massachusetts pizzeria for domestic assault on estranged wife, hitting police officer trying to subdue him.

First Dominic Carter beat his wife up, now Howard Bryant, a senior writer for ESPN, is in the news for domestic violence. According to The Republican, Bryant, who is black, was arrested in front of a pizzeria in Buckland, MA, Saturday night and charged with assaulting his estranged wife, Veronique Bryant, who is white, as well as hitting a police officer who tried to subdue him.

Howard Bryant, 42, of Hawley Road in Ashfield, was arrested at about 12:15 p.m. Saturday and charged with domestic assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, said state Trooper T.J. Tudryn of the Shelburne Falls barracks.

Five witnesses gave statements saying they saw a man arguing with a woman, police said. They said he choked her and pushed her into a car, Tudryn said.When police arrived, he argued with them and struck Trooper Brian Doak in the chest with his elbow, Tudryn said. Doak was not injured. “He pulled away from the police officers when they were trying to handcuff him,” Tudryn said. “He was uncooperative and resistant.”Source

It reportedly took four officers to subdue this man, so imagine what he would or could have done to his estranged wife. It is shameful that his bail is a paltry $5,000, which if he had to post 10 percent, would have been a laughable $500. It's time domestic abusers stop getting a slap on their wrists. I would venture to say, this isn't the first time he got physical with his wife. The court system should ensure that this is the last time he ever does something like that again.

UPDATE#1: Now we are hearing cries of racism coming from Howard Bryant's attorney. According to The Republican, Bryant's attorney, Buz Eisenberg, said the police overreacted to the "verbal altercation" because it involved a black man and a white woman. He told the newspaper, “This case is about the fact that racism still exists in America, and Howard Bryant is a victim of it.” How convenient it is to pull out the race card every time something crazy happens.  Here's the sad thing, his estranged wife agreed that the police overreacted. The victim standing up for her abuser. Where have I seen this before? Dominic Carter and his wife, Marilyn Carter. Same thing. Never mind the fact that witnesses reported that Bryant choked his wife and pushed her into a car, the newspaper said. If it was just a verbal altercation, why did it take officers three minutes to subdue him? Excuses, excuses, excuses. Pulling the race card is getting really tired right now.

The Former Majority Association for Equality has launched a college scholarship for white males, who it claims is now an underrepresented demographic in society. Right. The group plans to give grants of $500 to any man from Texas who is at least 25 percent Caucausian, has good grades and can demonstrate that they are in need. It would be interesting to hear what our so-called civil rights leaders have to say about this. I mean people like Revs. Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton. This amounts to pure bullsh*t.

This is an attempt to divide us once again. For those people who believe that scholarships or grants for women, blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Middle Easterners are similar, come again. From a historical perspective, blacks were denied basic rights in this country and the government had to step in to make sure we were being treated fairly and could get an education. The last time I checked, it is so much easier for a white male to climb the corporate ladder that he isn't in need of a hand-out.

He added that the group is not taking a stance on affirmative action and has denounced racism.

‘It's time in our society to look at the way our culture views race,’ he said. ‘It's time to give everyone an equal shot.’

Speaking Sunday at the annual Saviours’ Day convention at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Farrakhan didn’t discuss specifics about the deadly uprisings in Libya.

But the 77-year-old said no leader has been loved by 100 percent of his people and said that if Gadhafi is persecuted for crimes against humanity, the same should apply to former President George W. Bush for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Farrakhan visited Gadhafi in the 1980s and in 1996 accepted a humanitarian award from him. But during his speech Sunday he warned the wave of revolution spreading across the Middle East is coming to the United States.

Speaking to followers who all but filled the 18,000-seat venue, he said, “What you are looking at in Tunisia, in Egypt, in Yemen, in Jordan, in Libya, in Bahrain will soon, very soon be in all the nations of the world . . . and even sooner take place in America.

“What you see happening there, you’d better prepare because it will be coming to your door, America.”

And Farrakhan added, “I hope that President Obama will remember his instructions to all nations — be careful how you attack and kill innocent people who are protesting. Take your own words into your bosom and be reminded when it comes to your home.” Source

I am amazed at the level of hubris Farrakhan displayed when he said former President George Bush should be treated the same way on the international landscape for war crimes. Er, Bush didn't order his military to mow down people demonstrating against his administration. This is more BS coming from the Nation of Islam. SHOCK: Bloomberg News Journalist Assaulted in Beijing While Covering Police Deployment

SHOCK: A journalist working for Bloomberg News was assaulted Saturday in Beijing while covering the deployment of police in response to online calls for protests in the capital of China, Bloomberg reports.

At least five men in plain clothes, who appeared to be security personnel, punched and kicked the reporter at Beijing’s Wangfujing shopping street at 2:45 p.m. local time yesterday. They also took the video camera he was carrying and detained him in a roadside store.

Uniformed police arrived after the attack and escorted the journalist to a nearby station where he filed a report of the attack before seeking treatment for his injuries at a local hospital. Police returned the video camera while the reporter was at the station, saying a passerby had found it.

Hundreds of police deployed in Beijing and Shanghai yesterday at the site of planned demonstrations called to protest corruption and misrule. In Beijing, few protesters were apparent amid the police presence. In Shanghai, at least seven people were bundled into police vans near Shanghai’s People’s Square. Source

Fight Between Teenage Groups at Houston Rodeo Cook-off Leaves Two Shot

Who would have ever thought a fight between teens could break out at a rodeo! Well, it did. According to KTRK, the shooting occurred at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo held at Reliant Stadium in.

The shooting happened half an hour before the carnival closed Saturday night. A group of teenage boys were detained. This year's barbecue cook off and carnival drew record crowds to Reliant Stadium, more than130,000 just Saturday night.

"Ninety-nine percent of people at the carnival had no idea there was even an incident," said Executive Director, Rodeo Operations Mike Demarco.

That incident, a fight between two groups of teenage boys, resulted in two people being shot. One is wounded in the buttocks. The other was injured in the foot. Both are minors. Source

When the wrecker service came to the property to remove some cars, he went ballistic. He reportedly went upstairs the home and started firing, shooting Travis Fenty, 44, to death.

Retired Atlanta Pastor & High Ranking United Methodist Church Official Albert Turnell Jr. Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

SHAME: Albert Turnell Jr., 71, who is a retired minister and a district superintendent of the United Methodist Church, was arrested Thursday morning at his home in Smyrna, Ga., on federal child pornography charges. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Turnell was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Turnell, former pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Smyrna, has also led congregations in Marietta, Calhoun, Dalton and Colbert, and has served as a district superintendent for the United Methodist Church. Turnell will have his first court appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge Thursday afternoon, Emmett said.

President Barack Obama will be hosting an event -- "The Motown Sound: In Performance at the White House" -- for Black History Month, but I am left scratching my head at some of the performers. Er, when I think Motown, teen idol Nick Jonas, Sheryl Crow and Natasha Bedingfield, who are all white, don't exactly come to mind. Let me also add all three are supporters of the Obamas. Nothing wrong with that, but there are other singers who would represent the Motown sound far better, in my opinion -- Roberta Flack, Bonnie Raitt, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Alicia Keys, etc.

Well, I guess you have to look out for your supporters, even if it makes little sense to have them trying to imitate the sound of a musical movement that changed the American landscape and gave us Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, to name a few. I might also add the trio I just mentioned is still alive and would have been far more credible than the sounds of Nick Jonas, Sheryl Crow and Natasha Bedingfield and even Seal, for crying out loud. I guess we should take some comfort in the fact that John Legend will be performing.

I must admit that I am very disappointed that President Obama and/or his handlers don't seem to get the message, in terms of honoring Motown. Natasha Bedingfield, a white British chart topper has absolutely no connection whatsoever to Motown, but I guess since she's a big supporter of the president, that counts for something. Just not in my book.

SHAME: Teenager Nicholas Lindsey has been arrested in the fatal shooting of St. Petersburg police officer David Crawford Monday night. Lindsey made his first court appearance Wednesday and was ordered held without bail. Why, why, why are some of our young people hellbent on doing the wrong thing and committing crimes? Why?

Officer David Crawford was shot multiple times Monday night while investigating a report of a prowler in a neighborhood just south of Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays play baseball. Crawford was the third St. Petersburg officer to die in the line of duty in the last month.

"When he did make the admission on tape for us at the end of the day, it was quite apparent that he was remorseful in his actions," Police Chief Chuck Harmon said during a late night news conference. "He cried." Source

Providence RI School District to Send Dismissal Letters to All Its 1,926 Teachers

The Providence, RI, school district plans to send out dismissal notices to its 1,926 teachers, in a move that is sure to rile union leaders, according to the Providence Journal. Here's an excerpt:

In a letter sent to all teachers Tuesday, Supt. Tom Brady wrote that the Providence School Board on Thursday will vote on a resolution to dismiss every teacher, effective the last day of school.

In an e-mail sent to all teachers and School Department staff, Brady said, “We are forced to take this precautionary action by the March 1 deadline given the dire budget outline for the 2011-2012 school year in which we are projecting a near $40 million deficit for the district,” Brady wrote. “Since the full extent of the potential cuts to the school budget have yet to be determined, issuing a dismissal letter to all teachers was necessary to give the mayor, the School Board and the district maximum flexibility to consider every cost savings option, including reductions in staff.” State law requires that teachers be notified about potential changes to their employment status by March 1.

“To be clear about what this means,” Brady wrote, “this action gives the School Board the right to dismiss teachers as necessary, but not all teachers will actually be dismissed at the end of the school year.”

“This is beyond insane,” Providence Teachers Union President Steve Smith said Tuesday night. “Let’s create the most chaos and the highest level of anxiety in a district where teachers are already under unbelievable stress. Now I know how the United States State Department felt on Dec. 7 , 1941.” That was the day the Japanese government bombed Pearl Harbor.

Judge rules Harsharan Sethi, fired from job at publisher of "Cambridge Who's Who" directories, has First Amendment right to blog about ex-boss.

Harsharan Sethi, former director of a management information systems company in Long Island, NY, that publishes "Cambridge Who's Who" directories, took to the blogosphere to blast his ex-employer after he was fired last year. According to the NY Daily News, he blogged that tapes containing personal information on hundreds of thousands of Who's Who members and 1,500 employees had been lost or stolen. He claimed the personal information included names, social security numbers, credit card and banking information and checking account numbers. Yeah a treasure trove for thieves.

The company accused him of breaching his employment contract. Nassau Supreme Court Justice Stephen Bucaria begged to differ and ruled Sethi was within his First Amendment rights to keep blogging about his issues with the company. So, this is a warning to other employers out there who feel that they can treat their employees any way they want and then fire them. There are consequences and the negative PR that comes from a disgruntled former employee putting a company on blast for valid reasons isn't in the best interest for any company.

Sethi blew the whistle and they probably terminated him for calling them out on such a serious security breach. There are many more people out there who have the goods on their former employers and would be in their rights to blow the whistle and blog about it. It is obvious that this company doesn't need to drag this disagreement out by filing lawsuit after lawsuit. It will have an adverse effect on the company's bottom line, particularly since there seems to be some truth about Sethi's claims. The current economic climate has led to some employers taking advantage of their staff by piling on more and more duties, while cutting salaries and eliminating benefits and pushing the envelope.

Sabrina Thompson has made history as the first black woman to compete in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open. According to NBCDFW, Thompson said she learned to fish late in life because her children wanted to fish. She said she has fished in various tournaments for the past 30 years. Who knew! Good for her and we wish her all the best.

She said she hopes her exposure will help other minority fisherman, who are often overlooked by sponsors and vendors. "There are a lot of African-Americans out here fishing," she said. But Thompson said vendors don't recognize black fishers as demographic because they don't know the anglers are out there. Thompson also said she has received numerous e-mails and calls from girls and women who are encouraged by her success and want to learn how to fish.

Jamaican reggae superstar Buju Banton was found guilty on three of four drug charges. He faces 15 years in prison. Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was found guilty Tuesday after the jury deliberated for 11 hours over two days. You will recall his first trial ended in a mistrial last year after the jury was deadlocked. His attorney plans to appeal.

Buju Banton was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense and using the wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offense. Sad, sad turn of events.

They got him the second time around. Buju was fighting an uphill battle with the charges. The bottom line is that he should have never found himself in such a position. He had far too much to lose and he fell for it hook, line and sinker. Buju has no one to blame but himself. I like his music, with the exception of the homophobic "Boom Bye Bye." He was stupid for getting mixed up in this mess and has to suffer the consequences.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the issue came to light on a recent Facebook posting when the cow birthed a calf. The Sun says the posting caught the attention of Sveinn Storm, who runs a Queen Anne's County-focused blog called "Pave Our County?"

Storm criticized Waterman's naming the cow after the African-American talk show host who has struggled with her weight. Storm say that's "precisely why an enormouse number of Americans view Republicans as racists."

Waterman defends the name. In a response to the Sun she said her children named the family's three cows. Oprah was named for a person they admire. The other two, Ferdinand and Isabella are named after the Spanish monarchs who approved Christopher Columbus's trip to the New World. Source

It is so hypocritical for her to say she loves Oprah Winfrey. You named a black cow after her for God sake. How wrong was that? So, I am guessing if I happen to purchase a pot belly pig and name him Rush, after Rush Limbaugh, I hope his supporters won't have a heart attack.

SHAME: An 11 year old Arvada boy was arrested and taken away in handcuffs for drawing stick figures of himself with a gun pointed at four other stick figures saying "teacher must die." His therapist told him to draw stick figures when he was upset, according to KDVR. His parents have reportedly said they understood that what he did was inappropriate, but are ticked off by the way Arvada Police handled the case. I should also add that the boy reportedly suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Last October, he drew stick figures of himself with a gun, pointed at four other stick figures with the words "teacher must die." He felt calmer and was throwing the picture away when the teacher saw it and sent him to the principal's office.

The school was aware that the boy was in treatment, determined he was not a threat, notified his parents and sent him back to class. His mother, "Jane" was shocked when Arvada Police showed up at their home later that night.

She says she told her son to cooperate and tell the truth, but was horrified when they told her they were arresting him and then handcuffed him and hauled him away in a patrol car. His mother says she begged police to let her drive her son to the police department and to let her stay with him through the booking process but they refused.

They put him in a cell, took his mug shot and fingerprinted him. He says he thought he was going to jail and would never be able to go home again. Source: KDVR

Seems to me like everyone overreacted and this was magnified to the extreme. It is obvious that child has some issues, so why did they go berserk over the pictures? Ridiculous.

St. Petersburg police officer David Crawford shot and killed responding to suspicious person call.

How many more police officers do we have to lose before something drastic is done to ensure their safety? St. Petersburg police officer David Crawford was shot and killed after responding to a report of a suspicious person.

At approximately 10:30 pm Officer Crawford and another officer responded to a report of a suspicious person on the 700 block of 3rd Avenue after a citizen observed a male walking through his backyard with a broken brick in his hand. Officer Crawford canvassed the area and found the subject near the southwest corner of 2nd Avenue S and 8th Street S. He parked his patrol car and approached the male. At some point during the encounter there was an exchange of gunfire and Officer Crawford was shot and wounded. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he died from his wounds. The suspect fled and remains at large. Source

Officer Crawford had been with the St. Petersburg Police Department for 25 years. He will be sadly missed.

Malikah Shabazz, daughter of slain civil rights leader Malcolm X, arrested in NC on several outstanding warrants from New York.

Malikah Shabazz, daughter of slain civil rights leader Malcolm X, was arrested Friday and is currently being held in a North Carolina jail. She could face extradition to New York were she is wanted on several outstanding warrants, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Malikah Shabazz was arrested Friday night after authorities responded to a call to a Mars Hill home, said Chief Deputy Michael Garrison of the Madison County Sheriff's Office. Investigators found that the 45-year-old had several outstanding warrants from Queens, N.Y., that include charges for grand larceny, forgery and identity theft.

Garrison and her lawyer, Sean Devereux, said Shabazz is the daughter of slain civil rights leader Malcolm X, who is also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. She was born months after Malcolm X was assassinated exactly 46 years ago Monday. Shabazz is scheduled to appear for an extradition hearing Tuesday.

Devereux said the warrants appear to be from 2009 but that she was never served with the papers. Her attorneys are not sure about the circumstances of the charges. He said prosecutors in New York have known her most recent address in South Carolina, where she owned a home and had a driver's license. Source

Seems like this woman has demons and it is a sad commentary for her 13 year old daughter, who is now in the custody of the local Department of Social Services.

Michelle Obama Under Fire for Eating Short Ribs During Vail Vacation While Touting Healthy Eating Habits

First Lady Michelle Obama under fire for eating braised ancho-chile short rib during Vail vacation as she pushes anti-obesity childhood campaign.

At first I thought it was no big deal to learn that First Lady Michelle Obama chowed down on a braised ancho-chile short rib Saturday in Vail, but on second thought, it comes across as a little disingenuous, but it isn't such a big deal. We all are allowed to treat ourselves to something different every now and then, but it seems that Mrs. Obama chose the wrong thing to indulge herself -- ribs. We all know ribs are chock full of calories and since she has embarked on an anti-obesity campaign then it's a little hypocritical, since this isn't the first time we have learned she has indulged in not-so-healthy food. Well, that's what her critics want you to think and say. One of those critics is Rush Limbaugh, the Viagra popping, pharmacy hopping race-baiter on the airwaves. He's also a hypocrite for dissing Michelle Obama's looks, considering he's no Adonis.

The Vail Daily was only too happy to share her meal to the whole world. Here's an excerpt:

The first lady went to Restaurant Kelly Liken in Vail Village on Saturday night, dining on a pickled pumpkin salad with arugula and a braised ancho-chile short rib with hominy wild mushrooms and sauteed kale.

“Yes, it's true, the first lady dined at our restaurant tonight and seemed to really enjoy it,” chef and owner Kelly Liken said.

The vegetables came from the greenhouse at Brush Creek Elementary School in Eagle as part of the Sowing Seeds program. Liken has helped spearhead the program, which allows local students to grow and harvest their own food and emphasizes the importance of nutrition, agriculture and sustainability.

“She was wonderfully gracious and very much interested in what we're doing in this valley for our kids' healthy lunch,” Liken said. “She was amazing and — all I can say is she was interested. It was really refreshing to see how interested she really was and how passionate about our kids' healthy lunches, as well as the movement to eat local here in the Vail Valley.”

What's lost on her loudest critics is the fact she had vegetables with the ribs. Who knows if she ate the whole thing. Hey Rush, take a look in the mirror before you trash someone for not looking like a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. You don't look like a male model either.
 
UPDATE#1: The Vail Daily has written a follow-up to its original story and their findings have left egg all over the faces of Mrs. O's critics -- Rush Limbaugh, Drudge Report, etc. They said that not only was Mrs. O's short rib nowhere near 1,500 calories, but the meal was also politically correct:

A braised short rib is a relatively lean cut of beef, braised with most of the fat cooked off. The 5-ounce serving runs about 600 calories, Liken said — a far cry from the 1,500 calories and 141 grams of fat it's accused of.

"A proper 5-ounce portion of protein is what nutritionists say we should have," said Kelly Liken, who launched the highly successful restaurant.

Let's not forget that the 5-ounce rib is served with local kale, nurtured and grown by students at Eagle's Brush Creek Elementary School.

Spoken in true form, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Cynthia Tucker says the GOP candidates for presidential nomination in 2012 have to pay "crazy tax" to birthers, climate change deniers, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann. She shouldn't have stopped at that group. I would have included the nuts on the religious right such as Bryan Fischer, Coral Ridge Ministries, Focus on the Family and all the politicians who support their brand of vileness.

Aretha Franklin's South Memphis Birthplace Falls in Disrepair with Rotting Floors, No Roof & Burnt-Out Back Section

Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin's birthplace in Soulsville Memphis falls in complete disrepair as current owner can't maintain home.

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin gets a lot of R-E-S-P-E-C-T in show business, but it seems that her birth-home gets none, unlike Elvis Presley's. According to the Commercial Appeal, the home in which Aretha Franklin was born is a rotting eyesore at 406 Lucy Street in the South Memphis neighborhood popularly known as Soulsville. You see, Aretha was from Memphis before she hailed from Detroit. The house is now owned by Vera Lee and is a sad commentary that the birthplace of such an iconic figure in America's history is in a state of disrepair -- back burned out, roof gaping and floor rotted through.

Shouldn't the city of Memphis wrap its arms around Aretha Franklin, who has 18 Grammy Awards to her credit, in much the same way as they embraced Elvis Presley? Shouldn't Aretha's accomplishment as the first woman inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame mean something to the city of Memphis? Some have said the house is in a desolate part of the city, then move it.

On the flip-side, if Aretha Franklin cared about it, then she would have done something about restoring the home. According to the Commercial Appeal, she visited the home in 1995. It would have been a good attraction for Memphis to bring tourists to see her birthplace and would inject new life into a desolate section of the city.

Incidents of Racism Continue to Dog University of Alabama Despite Steps Towards Inclusivity by President

I have no words to adequately express the disgust I feel about the racial tensions simmering at the University of Alabama. Here's an excerpt from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Recent flaps over racially offensive language at the University of Alabama fit a pattern that's dogged the state's flagship school since it was integrated: Missteps along the path to greater diversity and inclusion often make more of an impression than positive strides do.

Months after the university unveiled a plaza and clock tower named for its earliest black students, the campus was swamped within the last two weeks with unwelcome attention after a white student was disciplined for yelling racial slurs at a black student. Days after that incident, more racial slurs were written on a campus sidewalk in chalk.

The school's president, Robert Witt, has drawn praise for instituting programs to increase diversity. But it's student foibles that garner the national headlines, such as when a parade of white students in Confederate uniforms stopped in front of a black sorority house in 2009 and angered alumnae gathered for a party.

To the white student who thought he could utter a racial slur and get away with it, shame on you. We have come so far as a country, why try to take us two steps back? There are so many decent, law-abiding and color-blind people in this country.

Former UPI Correspondent Helen Thomas Calls Obama a Coward & Equates His "Blackness" with Liberalism

Helen Thomas, the former UPI White House correspondent who made some off-color remarks some time ago that cost her a cushy job, is spouting off again, specifically questioning President Barack Obama's "blackness." Hey, I never thought I would quote NewsBusters, but hey, for what it's worth, they picked up this story. Thomas was on Joy Behar's show on HLN Wednesday night and offered up her ridiculous opinion on his so-called liberalism and the Iraq war.

Thomas said Obama is a coward, not a liberal, which was disappointing, since she thought "because he was black, I thought he would automatically be" liberal, or in other words, have an "empathy for all the blacks."

BEHAR: Things have changed. And President Obama, do you like him? Do you think he is doing a good job? We started out the conversation before about it a little bit.

THOMAS: I think he lacks courage.

BEHAR: He lacks courage?

THOMAS: And he is not a liberal. I had hoped he was. I suppose I thought he was, because he was black, I thought he would automatically be–

BEHAR: Well, that was your mistake.

THOMAS: That was my mistake. I thought he would be a liberal.

BEHAR: Can’t judge a person by the color.

THOMAS: Absolutely. You are so right. But I really thought that he would have an empathy for all the blacks, what they had gone through in life.

BEHAR: Well, I think he does have empathy, but he is up against a Republican machine, and he has to get reelected. You know, I mean, he’s in a tough spot. Doesn’t he have to get re-elected? He needs the middle, doesn’t he?

THOMAS: You take a stand on something in your life. You should have principles and stick to them.

Earlier in the interview, Thomas slammed Obama for failing to get out of Iraq faster:

BEHAR: But -- I have to tell you that, you know, I admired you, many -- I admire you even now, for the many things that you did in those press conferences, how you stood up to presidents, how you spoke out, particularly on the Iraq war, which I was vehemently against myself. And one of the reasons that I liked Obama was that he was against the Iraq war.

THOMAS: Almost.

BEHAR: Well, he was against it. I mean, I think that he ran on that.

THOMAS: Well, you know, let's see it fulfilled.

BEHAR: Well, you know, I think he was handed something, too. So let's -- I always expect the best from him.

THOMAS: I never have sympathy for presidents. They aren't handed -- he could have walked out the day after he took the oath.

BEHAR: Well, I guess so, but I don`t know if -- you know, what happened to if you break it, you have to fix it, you know?

THOMAS: It was broken.

BEHAR: It was broken. So we had an obligation to stay there, no?

THOMAS: No, you just get out. How did he go in?

BEHAR: Well, he didn`t go in. It was George Bush who went in.

You see, everyone on the Democratic side of the aisle takes the black vote for granted and it's time blacks woke up to this fact. I have not considered myself a Cemocrat for decades and haven't voted as such, except for presidential candidates, I have largely voted Republican. For what it's worth, Helen Thomas should take a long, hard look at herself in the mirror. She might be scared stupid at what she sees. As for Joy Behar, I used to watch her show when it first started coming on and I have since stopped. Boring and lacks substance. There are a few people with shows on HLN that should be given the boot -- Joy Behar and Jane Velez-Mitchell come to mind.

Delray Beach Police Officer Sgt. Adam Rosenthal Killed in Automobile Accident

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Florida police officer Sgt. Adam Rosenthal, who was killed in a car accident near the intersection of Southwest 18th Street and Boca Rio Road in Boca Raton at approximately 6:15 am Thursday morning.

According to Officer Down Memorial Page Inc., he was reporting to the station at the beginning of his shift when his patrol car struck a tree in the median. He was flown to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On a personal note: This incident struck a nerve when I read about his untimely death because I was involved in an accident last Sunday evening. My kids and I were on our way home from a soccer tournament when a motorist in another vehicle shot out from a side street and failed to yield. He drove right across in front of my car to the opposite side of the street. I came to a complete stop and then all hell broke loose. I was hit from behind by another motorist who was following too closely. As it stands right now, I have terrible back pain and I am feeling some pain on the right side of my chest where the seat belt tightened. I thank God because the outcome could have been quite different for my children and I. Sergeant Rosenthal is survived by four children.

Mother Accuses Agent at Norman Manley Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, of Traumatizing 12 Year Old Daughter During Body Search

Mother files complaint against Airports Authority of Jamaica saying her 12 year old daughter was violated during invasive body search, with no relatives present.

The Airports Authority of Jamaica is getting some negative public relations that it would love to forget. A mother has claimed her 12 year old daughter was subjected to an embarrassing body search Monday at the Norman Manley International Airport located in Kingston, Jamaica. She said her daughter's privacy was violated at a security checkpoint at the airport and she isn't taking it lightly and I can't say I blame her. So, I'm doing my part to get the news out there as well. This is ridiculous and I think the Jamaican government is going overboard with these over-the-top searches, while criminals run rampant in some areas of the country.

The mother, who The Gleaner has chosen not to name to protect her daughter's identity, filed a complaint with the Airports Authority, noting that a female security officer asked the child to remove her pants and underwear following an upper-body pat-down search.

In her email to Lieutenant Commander John McFarlane, director of aviation security, the mother wrote: "(The officer) then questioned her about her menses, then told her to reclothe herself."

The mother said she was appalled at what her daughter went through, and would now tell her child to be obedient to no one except her parents.

"My poor little daughter had to put herself through that," she said, also noting that she had not received a response from McFarlane.

However, McFarlane told The Gleaner yesterday that what the child experienced was a close body search and the Airports Authority was "aggressively" pursuing the claim.

"Anybody can be searched," he said, noting there was no age restriction. "Unfortunately, we've seen incidents where two-year-olds ingested cocaine for trafficking. It is very sad." Source: Jamaica Gleaner

Like some TSA officers here in the U.S.A., some of the agents in Jamaica are arrogant and go overboard with the whole issue of security. I hope the mother gets the satisfaction she deserves from her complaint and it will serve as a deterrent to other agents who feel they are the big Kahuna and the buck stops with he or she. The child is a minor, why wasn't a relative allowed to watch the agent do such an invasive search? Anything could have happened. She could have been sexually molested. Shameful, shameful.

Trial of Jamaican-born evangelist Paul Lewis for sexual activities with two teenage girls in Jamaica to start Thursday.

Remember the dirtbag Jamaican-born pastor from Brooklyn Paul Lewis? His trial will start today in the Westmoreland Circuit Court in Jamaica. You will recall that, Lewis (who claims to have a doctorate)stands accused of engaging in sexual activities with two teenage girls.

It’s reported that on June 14, 2009, the pastor had sex with a 15-year-old girl and kissed and fondled a 14-year-old female in his hotel room in Negril.

A report was later made to the police and Reverend Lewis was charged with carnal abuse of the 15-year-old girl and indecent assault involving the 14-year-old.

Reverend Lewis is also booked to appear before the Sav-la-mar Resident Magistrate’s Court today to answer the charge of perverting the court of justice. Source: Jamaica Gleaner

MSNBC Reject Tucker Carlson Attacks Michelle Obama Saying "She Will Raise Your Kids by Gunpoint"

Fox News Channel contributor Tucker Carlson attacks Michelle Obama saying "she is will raise your kids at gunpoint.

Why MSNBC reject Tucker Carlson is on any other network for his so-called "expertise" is beyond me. During an appearance on the Sean Hannity Show Tuesday night, he chose to attack First Lady Michelle Obama with a threatening choice of words -- “she will raise your kids at gunpoint.” Really? This is coming from the same person who said Michael Vick should have been "executed" for dogfighting activities. When we call out the right wing for using veiled calls to incite violence we are called instigators. But it takes some commonsense to realize what Michelle Obama is calling for is a healthier lifestyle. What's so wrong about that? When Nancy Reagan embarked on her "Just Say No" to drugs campaign, where were Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity?

Carlson's comment about Mrs. Obama came after Sean Hannity said she is trying to have a “nanny caretaker state” and is going to tell us what to eat and when to exercise when that’s the parent’s job, not hers. Hannity started off his “Great American Panel” by bitching like a girl about her imploring women to breastfeed and a Democratic panelist supported her and then Carlson interjected “she will raise your kids at gunpoint.”

Here's the issue -- there are many parents out there who aren't paying attention to what their children eat. We have many, many children being raised on fast foods and other types of junk. We are now so technologically savvy that it is a stretch of the imagination for kids to go outside and play. Added to the xBox, Playstation, Nintendo and other gadgets is the constant worry of our children's safety. So, please, Michelle Obama isn't doing anything wrong. More parents need to step up to the plate and make sure their children are getting a balanced meal and being taught the right habits or we will continue to have overweight kids.

Musician Lenny Kravitz to Release Ninth Album "Black & White America" to Address Race Issues

Singer and musician Lenny Kravitz, son of a black mother, Roxie Roker, who was a star of "The Jeffersons" and white television producer Sy Kravitz, said he will release his first album in three years entitled "Black and White America." No matter how hard we try, race is always an issue. According to Reuters, the album will be the ninth in his career but the first under a new label, Atlantic and Roadrunner Records. The album will be released in the middle of 2011 as Kravitz commences on a world tour in June.

Kravitz told Billboard.com the album's title was derived from his experiences growing up "in between a so-called black and white world," up to changes in the United States today including Barack Obama elected as the first black president.

"My life has always been about contrasts, and it reflects on not only my life and what I've gone through with my parents and what I saw growing up, but also where we are now as far as this country," he said.

Interesting. Who better would know how living in both worlds feels. His experience must have been similar to Barack Obama's on many levels.

West Virginia Deputy U.S. Marshal Shot & Killed Serving Warrant on Charles Smith, Suspect Dead & Two Other Deputies Wounded

Developing: A deputy U.S. marshal was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on Charles Smith. The suspect was also killed. The deputy was one of three who approached the Elkins, WV home Wednesday morning. The other two depities were wounded. Smith was wanted on a 2006 bench warrant on federal drug and related charges.

Black Dallas Commissioner, John Wiley Price, Tells White Citizens at Meeting to "Go to Hell"

Black Dallas Commissioner John Wiley Price gets into altercation with Jeff Turner and other citizens and says all who are white "go to hell."

Dallas Commissioner John Wiley Price should be ashamed of himself for telling a few citizens to "go to hell" after an altercation erupted during a County Commissioner's Court meeting Tuesday. Of course, The Drudge Report picked up the story under the caption, "black commissioner tells white people to go to hell.""

The exchange started during the public speaking portion of the meeting, which happens after the commissioners have gone through their weekly agenda.
Six citizens addressed the court. All of them talked about the recent controversial departure of county Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet.  Sherbet, who was the Elections Administrator for 24 years, said he felt Price and Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins forced him out.

The last public speaker at Tuesday’s meeting, Jeff Turner, began by stating that he would refer to “a certain member of the court” — Price — as “the Chief Mulllah of Dallas County.Court rules state that public speakers may not address individual commissioners by name. As Turner spoke, he continued to call Price “Chief Mulllah.” Price interrupted Turner several times, yelling at him, “don’t call me Chief Mulllah” and “call me by my name.” Source: CBS DFW

No matter how you view this dust-up, the Price had no right to speak to the citizens in such a manner, no matter how angry they made him. I'm pretty sure had Mr. Price been told that by a white man or woman, all hell would have broken loose and we would have a mess on our hands. Not only was he wrong for saying that, but he was very, very disrespectful.

SHAMEFUL: Veteran journalist Nir Rosen has resigned from his fellowship at New York University after he put his foot in his mouth in a major way. He has come under fire for joking about the sexual assault on CBS journalist Lara Logan in Egypt. NYU University Center for Law and Security director Karen Greenberg said in a statement that he had stepped down after coming under fire for joking on Twitter about Lara Logan's assault. Disrespectful and in poor taste. Women everywhere should condemn this bigotry. Here's an excerpt of Greenberg's statement from the Huffington Post:

Nir Rosen is always provocative, but he crossed the line with his comments about Lara Logan. I am deeply distressed by what he wrote about Ms. Logan and strongly denounce his comments. They were cruel and insensitive and completely unacceptable. Mr. Rosen tells me that he misunderstood the severity of the attack on her in Cairo. He has apologized, withdrawn his remarks, and submitted his resignation as a fellow, which I have accepted. However, this in no way compensates for the harm his comments have inflicted. We are all horrified by what happened to Ms. Logan, and our thoughts are with her during this difficult time.

It's a shame that a stellar journalism career is now marred by such careless and insensitive banter. It is unconscionable that he tweeted "Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson. Where was her buddy McCrystal." According to the Huffington Post, he also tweeted that he couldn't forgive Logan for defending Stanley McChrystal and condemning Rolling Stone writer Michael Hastings for his report on the former general. What an insensitive man!

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata, who was shot and killed, another wounded while driving through northern Mexico Tuesday. According to Fox News, Zapata was was on assignment from the office in Laredo, Texas, where he served on the Human Smuggling and Trafficking Unit as well as the Border Enforcement Security Task Force.

Marc Higgins facing murder & assault charges for killing friend and injuring three others after they made fun of his "flatulence."

Marc Higgins of Bristol, CT, is accused of stabbing a friend to death and injuring three others at a party, according to media reports. He allegedly took this violent action because his friends were making fun of his flatulence. Guess what? He pleaded not guilty to murder and assault charges in court on Monday.

Police say the 21-year-old Higgins was "very drunk" at a Bristol house party last month and was ridiculed because of flatulence. Police say one woman even slapped him because of it. Police say at that point he stormed out of the party and returned about 45 minutes later with three knives and started stabbing people indiscriminately. Source: KHOU.com

Modern-day slavery rears its ugly head in Britain, thanks to pastor Lucy Adeniji, who is facing prison time after smuggling children into the country to use as servants. According to Voice Online, Adeniji smuggled two children and a 21-year-old woman into Britain from Nigeria using false passports to claim that they were related to her. What's equally despicable, Ms. Adeniji is also an illegal immigrant.

Adeniji had promised the children’s parents that she would provide a better life for them in Britain, but instead carried out cruel beatings if they failed to please her.

The alarm was only raised when the older 'servant' ran from Adeniji’s Barking, east London, home in just a towel after being beaten and forced to strip and kneel down reports website thisislondon.co.uk.

A jury was told how Adeniji held Olubukols 'Buki' Adeniji at her five bedroom home in Ray Gardens, Barking, after she was brought into Britain on an illegal passport from Nigeria aged 11.

According to thisislondon.co.uk , Buki, who arrived in 1997, was supposed to be continuing her education in Britain but was never sent to school and was forced to wait on Adeniji's own children. Her day started at 5am and she was not allowed to bed until 1am.

She was regularly beaten, prosecutor Tim Starkey said, and on one occasion pepper was put in her eyes and genitals as punishment and she was struck with a meat cleaver.

Mother of five, Adeniji, who has written a number of books on child care, was convicted of child cruelty, assault and facilitating illegal entry into Britain of a child.

She also confessed to six counts of obtaining false passports for herself and her own children and two counts of facilitating illegal entry. The pastor also faces a separate investigation into money she claimed in benefits for her own children. Source: Voice Online

Andrew Breitbart is at it again. This time a cartoon ran on his Big Journalism website portraying First Lady Michelle Obama as a burger eating fat woman, in a dig against her anti-obesity campaign. No respect.

The cartoon, which also appeared on Breitbart's Big Journalism site over the weekend, references Obama's campaign to encourage healthy eating and fight obesity. In it, she is drawn with a double chin and plump cheeks. She is drawn saying, "I've stepped up my efforts to control America's eating habits by telling restaurants to lower portion sizes and fat content." While she says this, she is eating one of a plateful of hamburgers. President Obama is shown next to her, with huge ears but no excess fat, eating one of a tiny number of vegetables. "Michelle, I want to get re-elected," he says. "What you're doing is only going to annoy a lot of people." "Shut up and pass the bacon!" she replies. Source: Huffington Post

Shouldn't Andrew Breitbart be worried about that defamation lawsuit former USDA director Shirley Sherrod filed against him? If the truth be told, with the right shade and editing, that picture could be Andrew Breitbart. I won't take offense to this when conservative cartoons portray Republican First Ladies in a similar vein. This is despicable and downright disrespectful but what else do you expect from a pig like Andrew Breitbart. He's the one who looks like he's chomping down on a platter of hamburgers and then some.

Is the University of Michigan Deliberately Placing Qualified Black Students on Waiting List?

Is the University of Michigan, located in Ann Arbor, deliberating placing black students from Detroit area with superior educational credentials on a waiting list? Well, my sources tell me that two black students, one a Merit scholarship recipient with a 4.0 GPA, and the other also has a 4.0 GPA, were placed on a waiting list for admission to the university. It should be noted that both students were accepted to Yale University. Stay tuned, more to follow on this story.

If a student brings a gun to school or is even holding a gun in any setting, all hell breaks loose. Shouldn't the same standards be applied to principals and teachers as well? Well, Debbie Napier-Smith, principal of Coal Mountain Elementary School in Forsyth County, Ga., is seen in a Facebook picture holding a gun. Shouldn't the Forsyth County Board of Education do something about this?

UPDATE#1:  I spoke with Candace Norton from the Forsyth County Board of Education and she apologized profusely and said she would address the matter. She said Ms. Napier-Smith may have been at a safety training class. But here's the problem -- I am not her friend on Facebook and I was able to view her pictures. So, it's obvious her privacy settings weren't in place.  Additionally, there was no caption stating this was a training session. No-one wants to see the principal or teacher on Facebook toting a gun or in a sexually suggestive picture. That's not what anyone wants to see, much less a parent. People have been fired for far less appearing on their Facebook page.

Low Income Heating Program to Get Budget Ax by the Obama Administration

The low income heating assistance program will be drastically reduced under President Barack Obama's new budget.

Low income people in this country who received assistance for their home heating bills are in for a rude awakening Monday morning, thanks to the Obama administration. The program was put in place to help the poor, but that will get the budget ax in a major way. Why is it that the low income programs get cut first in everything? A White House spokesman said the costs associated with the program has risen rapidly to over $5 billion dollars since 2008 due to the higher oil prices. Er, whose fault is that? The low income folks? The president is also touting his increased focus on education, but they aren't saying how much harder it will become for the low income and middle class to send their children to college.

Obama, for instance, plans to cut $3 billion out of the $5.1 billion federal Low Income Heating Assistance Program. That means nearly 29,000 low-income Georgians who are currently enrolled in the program may see less or no government help in paying their heating bills.

Also in the cost-cutting cross hairs: The Women, Infants and Children nutrition program that helps feed needy pregnant women and children. Georgia is the nation’s fifth-largest state for WIC, with about 323,000 Georgians enrolled in the program in any month.

Cuts in the Department of Housing and Urban Development also could make it tougher for the poor to get housing help. Could that result in replays like the mob scene East Point saw last summer over Section 8 housing?

Other places where Georgians might see cuts to social services: school lunch programs, special education and after-school programs.

So, zinging the poor in this country is the way the Obama administration chooses to address runaway spending. Why not tighten up or eliminate some of the loopholes the rich take advantage of and eliminate the waste from Medicare? Why not step up enforcement in the WIC program so illegal immigrants can't get access to the assistance. The rich will get richer and the poor and middle class will get poorer. So, do you still think that elitist label tagged on to President Obama doesn't manifest itself in this latest budget ax on programs helping the poor and middle class? Unbelievable.

Oprah Winfrey is calling on critics of her friend, President Obama, to "show some level of respect." Winfrey, appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Friday morning, also said, "I feel that everybody has a learning curve, and I feel that the reason why I was willing to step out for him was because I believed in his integrity and I believed in his heart." My favorite singer, Patti Labelle also called for respect to the "man in the White House" as she sang Michael Jackson's Earth Song during a recent performance. We all know the mood in the country is a very negative one and Oprah said, “I think everybody complaining ought to try it for once.” I will echo her sentiments that the presidency "holds a sense of authority and governance over us all.” You don't have to support his positions but respect is key. Former President George W. Bush didn't get the respect he was due either, but I never heard anyone saying he didn't love his country. That's just meanspirited. It's a shame that hatemongers such as Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck seem to exert so much control over the minds of many. It's a shame.

Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee Takes to House Floor to Say Pepsi Zero Superbowl Ad "Demeaning to Black Women"

Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee says Pepsi Superbowl ad showing angry black woman, racist and demeaning to black women.

Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) took to the House floor Tuesday night to let her feelings about the Pepsi Zero Max commercial that aired during the Superbowl showing a black woman who gets angry at her husband. She said it a "demeaning" ad and said it was racist. I think what ticked her off was the scene in which the woman and her husband were sitting on a park bench enjoying a Pepsi Zero Max, a white woman sits on the bench next to them, smiles and waves at the man and the black woman went berserk. Could someone also tell Sheila Jackson-Lee about that Ethiopian woman who took to YouTube to criticize American black women as the "worst kind in the world" and that "they talk bad."

Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.

"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning — an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."

Jackson Lee said she has a sense of humor and believes in the First Amendment. She also said the Super Bowl is a great time for "fellowship" with family members.

"That is why I'm so disappointed with the Pepsi advertisement that showed a demeaning role for African American women, in an ad that showed a can being thrown and being utilized to wound someone else or hit someone else," she said.

"I think that we can come together in a much better way, sell Pepsi, and as well talk about good nutrition," she said. "But, frankly, I consider this insulting, and so did many other women of all colors." Source: The Hill

Er, this is coming from the same woman who proposed that hurricanes and storms be given more "black-sounding" names. Go figure. Doesn't Sheila Jackson-Lee have more pressing issues to confront than worrying about a television ad?

Antonio Cardenas-Rico Facing Murder Charges in Stabbing Deaths of Two Small Children in Lawrenceville GA home

UPDATE#1:Elvis Garcia has been charged with murder in stabbing deaths of his two children and the man firs suspected of the crime has been released.<\h3>
It takes the worst kind of scum to murder a child. Elvis Garcia and not Antonio Cardenas-Rico, 28, has been charged with two counts of murder in the fatal stabbing one year old Edward Garcia and three year old Bradley Garcia in a Lawrenceville, Ga., home. Another child, a three year old boy was also stabbed and is in serious condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Garcia, 23, was also found stabbed in the home and is also in critical condition.

Police did not give many details about the suspect, but they indicated the attack may not have been random. “We don't know at this point if entry was forced or not. He was :
familiar with family, and the family was familiar with him,” Smith said. Two other men were also at the home during Cardenas-Rico's arrest, police told Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh. They said the men were being held in custody on unrelated charges. Source: WSB-TV
This man was after something or someone for whatever reason, but it is unconscionable and downright despicable that he could take out his rage on children, who had nothing to do with what caused this bloody rampage. It will be interesting to hear what set this off. Still, no excuse to murder innocent kids and attempt to murder another child. The prosecutor should seek the death penalty.
