Undercover Livonia MI Police Officer Shot in Walled Lake Area, Suspect Also Killed

Authorities said Livonia Officer Larry Nehasil, a 20 year veteran, was killed in the line of duty, during surveillance of suspect during home invasion.

URGENT:  A Livonia, MI, police officer has been shot. According to MyFoxDetroit, he may have been working undercover at the time of the shooting. The shooting reportedly occurred in Walled Lake between 5:15 and 5:20 p.m. Monday evening. The shooter has been killed. Okay, so what is a Livonia officer doing in Walled Lake without backup? Seems like he was out of his jurisdiction, but the details are sketchy right now and it's not uncommon for surveillance work to take an officer out of his jurisdiction.

UPDATE#1: The Detroit Free Press is reporting both the officer and the suspect are dead. It is a sad commentary that another police officer has been killed in the line of duty protecting the community.
A law enforcement source said a plain-clothed Livonia officer was reportedly working surveillance of a suspect who had been involved in some home invasions. The officer followed the suspect to Walled Lake, where he apparently confronted the man coming out of a home around 6 p.m. near Glenwood and Maple in Walled Lake, the source said. The two reportedly exchanged gunfire and both were killed, authorities said. Walled Lake police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene of the incident, which is near the border with Commerce Township. Source: Detroit Free Press
