Lakewood NJ Police Officer Chris Matlosz Fatally Shot, Suspect Still at Large

Lakewood, NJ, police officer Chris Matlosz, fatally shot after being attacked & shot by a male, who is still at large.

Another police officer has been gunned down in the line of duty. According to media reports, Officer Chris Matlosz was shot and killed after responding to a call in Lakewood, NJ. While on the scene, he was attacked and fatally shot by an individual, according to Officer Down Memorial Page.

The suspect fled the scene and is still at large. Asbury Park Press is reporting that Matlosz was killed in his patrol car after stopping a man who was walking in the Golfview development at about 5 p.m. Friday evening. During a press conference, law enforcement officials said they believe Matlosz was familiar with the man, who shot him at point blank range.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer's family. This is a sad turn of events. Officer Matlosz served in the Lakewood Police Department for six years.

UPDATE#1:  Murder charges have been filed against Jahmell W. Crockam, 19, in the killing of township police Officer Christopher Matlosz, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said this afternoon, according to the Asbury Park Press. He is known by the street name "Sav" which is short for ""Savage," Ford said. Crockam, 19, is still at large.
