Manatee, FL, corrections sergeant Matthew Neu suspended for "The Obama Prayer" calling for removal of President Obama from office.
"The Obama Prayer" has gotten Manatee County corrections Sergeant Matthew Neu in a heap of trouble. According to
WTSP.com, an internal affairs report stated that Neu highlighted a verse in the Bible that reads,
"Let his days be few and let another take his office," taken from Psalms 109:8. Well, it seems that some of his coworkers, specifically Sergeant Martha Nash, had a big problem with his "Obama Prayer," so much so that she told investigators he went too far. What really hit a nerve for her was the following verse --
"Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow." Okay, so was this a call for President Obama's assassination, or just a call for another shellacking in the upcoming 2012 elections?
Sgt. Nash says a copy of her bible was on her desk and inside that bible was a handwritten note that said "Obama Prayer." She says at first she thought it was probably something positive until she took a closer look.
Nash said "she felt whoever left the note wanted the president dead and that the supporting verses after that verse support that." The following verse reads, "Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."
But Sgt. Neu told investigators it was not a threat on the president. In the report, he admits, "Maybe it was not in good taste." He says it was never intended for Nash.
He adds that the desk where he left the bible is shared by several co-workers and that there was a stack of bibles on the desk. A stack of bibles that the chaplain hands out to inmates and other employees. Neu says he planned to show the bible verse to others since he'd received an email about the bible verse because "he thought it was funny." Meanwhile, Sgt. Neu has been suspended without pay for about 26 hours. That's about three 8-hour shifts. Source: WSTP TV
I don't know quite what to make of this, but I on first glance I don't think Sergeant Neu's intention was to call for an assassination. It's just that many people are disillusioned with President Obama for a myriad of reasons and his die-hard supporters just don't want to hear anything they perceive as negative against him. Still, former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were criticized beyond mere words, but you didn't see the outrage and outcry in the media. On a serious note, don't we have more pressing issues to worry about?
