Baltimore police officer William H. Torbit Jr., & civilian Sean Gamble, shot and killed outside Select Lounge club after fight spills out into parking lot.
Chaos erupted outside the Select Lounge in downtown Baltimore early Sunday morning after a fight broke out in the club. A plainclothes police officer, William H. Torbit Jr., and a civilan, Sean Gamble, were fatally shot. Torbit, an eight-year veteran of the force, was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to the
Baltimore Sun. Another officer was shot in the foot. Here's the sticky part. Police cannot say what prompted the officers to fire or whether anyone other than an officer fired a gun.
The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was in the early stages, said witnesses have told detectives that the officer who was shot was in plainclothes and was being attacked by a group of people. Officers who came around a corner saw him firing and shot at him, the sources said. Source: Baltimore Sun
It is also a sad commentary that Sean Gamble, 22, who was engaged, lost his life as well. Gamble has no criminal record and the word is that he got into a fight. There are too many trigger-happy people patronizing clubs across this country.
