AZ Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, whose name was on Sarah Palin "target list" on map of USA with gun marks for her support of health care reform, fighting for her life.
Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 11 others were shot during a political event outside a Safeway grocery store in Tucson. There are reports that six people have been fatally shot. It should be noted that Giffords was one of the Democrats targeted by Sarah Palin for her support of the health care reform. Palin’s Facebook page at the time carried an actual map of the USA with gun marks on the locations of the 20 politicians she was “targeting.”I have long felt that Sarah Palin and others, such as Steve King (R-IA) and Tom Tancredo, have made statements that can be considered as fomenting the people on the fringe, who are only too happy to pick up a gun and shoot whoever they feel is in their way. This has to stop.We can agree to disagree without resorting to gunshots. This is a wake-up call to politicians on both sides of the aisle to stop fanning the flames of unrest and tensions. Though there is no indication this was a politically motivated act of violence, it still speaks to a dire need to tamp down the rhetoric coming from both parties. We will have another murder of an elected official, up to the president, if something drastic isn't done.
Ms. Giffords is known for cracking down on illegal immigration, urging deployment of the National Guard and new technology to protect the Arizona border. Her Her husband, Capt. Mark Kelly, who is a Navy pilot, a Desert Storm veteran and an astronaut, is en route to Arizona. It is time for people to push back against the inflammatory rhetoric coming from Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Mike Savage, Laura Ingraham, the birther movement, some on the fringe of the Tea Party movement, Tom Tancredo, Steve King and the biggest one of them all, Rush Limbaugh. It is time to stop or a more senior politician will be shot and possibly killed.
