Gloria Faith Dupree charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and failure to yield in traffic accident that caused death of University of West Georgia student and golfer Matthew Benjamin Dyas.
Drinking and driving is a deadly combination that so many choose to ignore. Matthew Benjamin Dyas, 20, a student and member of the golf team at the University of West Georgia, was killed Saturday when his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by Gloria Faith Dupree, 23, at the entrance to the UWG football stadium, an hour before the homecoming day football game was set to begin. Dupree was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and failing to yield while turning left, according to the Times-Georgian.
“I’m just speechless, devastated,” said Daryl Dickey, UWG’s athletic director and head football coach, following Saturday’s game. “It puts this game in perspective. I tell our players all the time to count their blessings and appreciate what they have because you never know what’s going to happen out there. Obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
The state patrol said Dupree made a left turn from the westbound lane of Lovvorn and into the path of Dyas’ motorcycle, which struck the Nissan’s passenger side, according to the state patrol.
Dyas was from Acworth and attended Harrison High School. He was a junior at UWG after transferring from Georgia Southern. He joined the UWG golf team in January and was on the All-Tournament Team at the 2011 UWG Invitational. He was majoring in finance. Source
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Matthew Benjamin Dyas. This was an avoidable accident and Gloria Dupree should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
