Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network's Atlanta Chapter May be Caught Up in Possible Identity Theft Scam

The Atlanta chapter of Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network may have unknowingly pushed a scam when Vanessa Emerson (wearing a NAN t-shirt) and her son, Brandon, handed out forms to seniors flocking to the chapter's office. According to media reports, this week more than 700 senior citizens filled out a form promising a $500 check from the American Opportunities Stimulus Program. They filled out sensitive information such as social security numbers, addresses, birth date and their names, all in the hopes of getting a Visa check card loaded with $500. Um, common sense should tell you that the government isn't just going to give you $500 without first notifying you that you may be eligible for this money. This was nothing more than an identity theft scam that NAN got caught up in.
