DDB Brasil's Ad for World Wildlife Fund
"The Tsunami Killed 100 Times More People Than 9/11"
It is appalling that any advertising agency could seek to launch a campaign showing many airplanes heading for buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York City, in light of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The ad was proposed by DDB Brasil to World Wildlife Fund, which has rejected the campaign and has joined a growing chorus of voices expressing outrage over the ad, which reads, "The Tsunami Killed 100 Times More People Than 9/11."
To add insult to injury, the ad was leaked in the week prior to the anniversary of the attacks of Sept 11, with copy that states, "The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it." This is unconscionable and I cannot understand how any director could approve at any advertising agency could sign off on this. It is offensive and tasteless.
