Tony Award Winning Actress Natasha Richardson Passes Away after Being Taken Off Life Support

It's with great sadness that I write about the passing of Tony Award winning Natasha Richardson. She was reportedly taken off life support yesterday and expired last night. As you know, she was involved in a freakish skiing accident in Canada on a beginner's slope where she hit her head. She is survived by husband Liam Neeson, 56, and their sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12. Her mother is legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave and her sister is actress Joely Richardson.

Richardson won her Tony in 1998 for playing Sally Bowles in "Cabaret." She was best known for her roles in films, including "The Parent Trap," "Nell" and "The Handmaid's Tale."

Richardson, a novice skier, was not wearing a helmet when she wiped out on a bunny hill Monday at a Canadian skiing resort. According to NY Daily News, although she appeared to be fine at first, the instructor and ski patrol at the Mont Tremblant resort took her by sled to the bottom of the hill and accompanied her to her hotel. Richardson repeatedly refused to see a doctor, witnesses said. An hour after the accident, Richardson had a pounding headache and "agreed to call an ambulance."

The lesson we should all take away from this is how precious and fleeting life is. I am sure that no-one in her family expected this devastation to hit them so suddenly. This is a reminder that we must cherish the ones we love. We must respect them and show them appreciation for the roles they play in our lives. Tomorrow is promised to no man, so we should all strive to live in peace and harmony in our lives, especially in our homes.
