"Socialist," A Code Name for Blacks, Rooted in Ugly Historical Past

I came across a very interesting editorial in the Kansas City Star newspaper. Seems like the "socialist" label John McCain and his totally ignorant sidekick Sarah Palin is said to be a code word for black. According to the editorial written by Lewis Diuguid, the "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.

Apparently J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality. You know freedom fighters like Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., W. E. B. Du Bois, A. Phillip Randolph and Paul Robeson.

McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those considered un-American and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare. Yep, same tactics coming from the Republican Party, but this time around, we are ready for whatever they are throwing our way.
