Robert Klosterman, Former CO of Aircraft Carrier John Stennis, Suspect in Murder-Suicide

Robert C. Klosterman, former CO of the aircraft carrier John Stennis, suspect in murder-suicide.

Robert C. Klosterman, a former first commanding officer of the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis, reportedly killed his wife, Rebecca, and then committed suicide. According to Pilotonline.com, the murder-suicide took place in the 300 block of Peace Haven Drive in Norfolk, Va. The couple was in the process of divorcing.

Klosterman served as first commanding officer between 1995 and 1997, according to published reports. He also was executive officer of the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower from June 1989 to April 1991, and commanding officer of the amphibious transport dock La Salle beginning February 1992.

Police received a call around 10 a.m. Sunday from an individual who sounded "despondent," Amos said. He asked police to respond to his residence. When police arrived, they made several attempts to contact the home’s occupants without success. When they entered the home, they discovered the bodies.
I have always maintained that people who take the lives of their spouse and children are selfish. Some may say that depression drove him to this, but there is no excuse for what he did. Robert Klosterman graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1969, according to media reports.
