Liberal Talk Show Host Ed Schultz Says President Obama's Opponents "Want Him Shot"

Liberal talk show host Ed Schultz made some incendiary comments on his show yesterday. He said that President Barack Obama's opponents want him shot. While I have wondered about the prospect of the president being harmed by a homegrown extremist, Schultz' comments are incendiary nonetheless. He is correct in stating that the fringe right wing is fanning the flames of such extremism -- Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and others come to mind.

Here's the transcript and clip from his syndicated radio program:

SCHULTZ (Tuesday 11 August 2009 - 01:42): It's almost as if every one of these town hall meetings is turning into "The Jerry Springer Show". And there are many Americans right now who are starting to fear for the safety of the president of the United States. All over health reform. Folks, these people are psycho, that's what they are.

SCHULTZ (04:53): Sometimes I think they want Obama to get shot. I do! I really think that there are conservative broadcasters in this country who would love to see Obama taken out. They *fear* socialism, they fear Marxism. They fear that the United States of America won't be the United States of America anymore.

I would caution both sides to temper the rhetoric in this dogfight. There are too many nuts out there who would be only too happy to go out in a hail of bullets. We can agree to disagree without all the name calling and vitriol that is being spewed by both Democrats and Republicans.
