Vice President Joe Biden Says He Would Tell His Family to Avoid Subways, Planes after Swine Flu Outbreak
Vice President Joe Biden is at it again. He's stirring up a hornet's nest and that's not what we need right now. Unless, of course, he has information the general public is not privy to, or I am inclined to believe, he's just up to his usual tricks. He said that he would not recommend taking any commercial flight or riding in a subway car “at this point” because swine flu virus can spread “in confined places.” A little more than one hour later, Biden rushed out a statement backing off.“I would tell members of my family – and I have – I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now,” Biden said on NBC’s “Today” show. These comments were clearly ill-timed and not smart. Of course, he said that would be in response to if asked by a family member. He has surpassed even his most outlandish gaffe with these comments.
“It’s not that it’s going to Mexico. It’s [that] you’re in a confined aircraft. When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me. … “So, from my perspective, what it relates to is mitigation. If you’re out in the middle of a field when someone sneezes, that’s one thing. If you’re in a closed aircraft or closed container or closed car or closed classroom, it’s a different thing.” he added.
Aren't his comments a direct contradiction to the more restrained advice from President Barack Obama and the federal government? Isn't the last thing the White House needs at this moment is Joe Biden startling people enough to cause mass hysteria across this country by shutting down the airline industry and big city subways? All I can say is that every American should practice proper hygiene. Keep your hands washed, cover your mouth when you cough and cover your nose when you sneeze.
