Carolyn Kennedy Gets Another Snub, Vatican Blocks Her Appointment as US Ambassador

Here we go again, Carolyn Kennedy gets the heave-ho for another political gig. According to the U.K. Telegraph, Vatican sources have told Il Giornale that their support for abortion has disqualified Carolyn Kennedy and other Roman Catholics President Obama had been seeking to appoint. You will recall that Carolyn Kennedy abruptly withdrew her name from the race to replace then NY Senator Hillary Clinton, amid stinging criticism that she lacked sufficient experience for the job.
The Italian paper said that the Vatican strongly disapproved of Mr Obama's support for abortion and stem cell research. The impasse over the ambassadorial appointment threatens to cloud his meeting with the Pope during a G8 summit in Itay in July.

Ms Kennedy, 53, has said that she supports abortion. Raymond Flynn, a former US ambassador to the Vatican, said earlier this week that Ms Kennedy would be a poor choice.

"It's imperative, it's essential that the person who represents us to the Holy See be a person who has pro-life values. I hope the President doesn't make that mistake," he told the Boston Herald. "She said she was pro-choice. I don't assume she's going to change that, which is problematic." Source: UK Telegraph
Well Carolyn, you ought to stick to the things you know. The Pope and the Roman Catholic Church are throwing their weight around again and it's rather laughable to me. This is coming from an institution with years of hiding sexual abuse among their priests. So what if Carolyn Kennedy is pro-choice? Does that automatically preclude her from being an ambassador? I think her choice is a poor one, but not on those grounds. The woman is unqualified, introverted, and wouldn't set the right tone for the job.Of course, the Vatican is denying that it has rejected several candidates for U.S. ambassador to the Holy See because of their support for abortion rights. Is the Vatican afraid of a little opposition to their position?
