More explosive details have emerged about the pistol found at the scene of the crime. McNair's girlfriend reportedly purchased the gun two nights before the murders. Police found a semiautomatic pistol beneath Kazemi's body. Nashville Metropolitan Police Department Spokesman Don Aaron said he didn't know whether it was a legal purchase but noted that Kazemi wouldn't meet the age requirement for a permit to carry a handgun, which is 21.
There's another hitch. The police have raised some concerns about the time lapse between when the bodies were discovered and when the 911 call was made.
Nashville police are confirming reports that former Tennessee Titans and Ravens QB Steve McNair has been shot and killed. McNair, 36, and Sahel Kazemi, 20, were found shot to death, police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters this afternoon. Police said that McNair was shot multiple times and the woman, identified as his girlfriend, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was reportedly found next to her body. Without passing judgment, it's interesting to note that McNair had multiple gunshot wounds and Ms. Kazemi had a single gunshot wound. It is quite obvious what that means -- a possible murder-suicide.
Don Aaron was asked whether the shooting was a murder-suicide and he said the investigators have not classified the incident yet. He reportedly said investigators have not ruled out anything, but were not "actively looking at suspects" Saturday night.
Aaron said that the bodies were found just two days after Kazemi was pulled over in a Cadillac Escalade, registered to her and McNair, and charged with a DUI. McNair was in the vehicle at the time. Apparently Mr. McNair is still married to Mechelle (Cartright) McNair, which means that he was cheating on his wife. They have a saying, "what's done in the dark will certainly come to light." I am sure more information on the state of his marriage will be revealed. It is being reported that he had been dating the young lady, who he met at a Dave & Buster's Restaurant, for a few months.
Titans owner Bud Adams released the following statement:
"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
The medical examiner will be conducting autopsies on Sunday. McNair led the Titans within a yard of forcing overtime in the 2000 Super Bowl. This is, indeed, a real tragedy. Still developing, more to follow......
