Racists For Obama? A Contradiction That Warrants a Deeper Look

Racists for Barack Obama? Indeed it is a contradiction that warrants a deeper look into exactly what Obama's candidacy is telling us about race in the American life. One has to be mindful of the fact, that while he has been vehemently criticized for his willingness to meet with our enemies on an international scale, there has scarcely been acknowledgment that if he becomes our next president, he will have to deal with the haters in the United States. Race has always been a fiery issue in America and no other election has forced us to examine the biases that still exist in a country that had such as horrific racist past.

I was amazed to see the picture of an Indiana home that flew the Confederate flag and had a Barack Obama/Joe Biden yard sign. I had to stop to ponder if, in fact, racists would vote for Barack Obama and what would their rationale be. I discovered, via Earl Ofari Hutchinson's notes in the Huffington Post, that there are, indeed, some racists want Obama to win because they assume his presidency will give credence to their belief that blacks want to give whites a taste of their own medicine. If this theory plays out, then when whites wake up to this idea, then their outrage will spark the racial holy war that white supremacists so desperately await. Their theory has holes in it. It does not explain Joe Biden's presence on the ticket.

Race will always be an issue in America and that is the sad reality that we face. Though the polls have given Barack Obama a commanding lead, some of the racists people in some areas of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri and other states, may actually vote for Barack Obama, for a number of reasons and showing us that some can put their prejudices aside, if only for one election. My parting question to you is, what does that house symbolize in the presidential election to you?
