Mark Levin, Conservative Radio Host, Blasts "Mindless...Pathetic" Beck For McCain Criticism

A backlash is building against Glenn Beck for comments he made during an online interview with Katie Couric, in which his incoherence took a sharp swerve. After months of referring to President Barack Obama as a "radical" and a "racist" he said that the country would have been worse off under Senator John McCain, and that he might have voted for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is best known for attempting to provide universal, government-provided health care for all Americans. Well, one of Beck's fellow right-wing talkers, Mark Levin came out swinging against him:

LEVIN: How can you day after day and night after night correctly rail against Obama's radicalism, how he's undermining the Constitution, how he's nationalizing our basic industries, how he has Marxists all around him, and then say in an interview with Katie Couric, I think John McCain would have been worse than Obama? Quote: "How about this? I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama. How's that?"

That's not good. McCain is no conservative, in fact in many respects he's a progressive. Which is why I fought him. Day in and day out. Day in and day out behind this microphone. Not only fought him behind this microphone but wrote article after article -- go ahead and Google it -- rejecting his candidacy. But to say that he'd be worse than a president that's a Marxist, who's running around the country -- I'm sorry, the world -- apologizing for our nation, who's slashing our defense budget, who's nationalizing our health care system?

To say he would be worse is mindless, mindless, incoherent as a matter of fact. There's our 5-PMer, on Fox ... I don't know who certain people are playing to, I don't know why they are playing to certain people ... I think there's enormous confusion and positioning and pandering. Levin had Beck pegged pretty accurately. Inconsistency is Glenn Beck's middle name. Well, the Rethuglicans can keep him. I am sure he's the last person the Democrats want in their circles -- Judas Iscariot. We all know that intellectual coherence isn't his forte.

Well this is a first. Right wing nutjob Glenn Beck made a startling admission in an interview with Katie Couric to air on CBSNews.com Tuesday evening. He said, "I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama," Beck told Couric in the debut episode of her new web show, @katiecouric.

Beck's revelation came in response to Couric's question about Hillary Clinton, who Beck said he may have even voted for had she been the Democratic nominee against John McCain. What? Quick, someone call the paramedics. The man is delirious.

"I can't believe I'm saying this," Beck said, "I think I would have much preferred [Hillary Clinton] as president and may have voted for her against John McCain." He went on to describe McCain as "this weird progressive like Theodore Roosevelt was."

Hillary Rodham Clinton On Question For "Mr. Clinton": "My Husband Is Not Secretary Of State, I Am"

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton got a little ticked off today when a Congolese university student at a town hall forum in Kinshasa asked her for former President Bill Clinton's opinion of the World Bank's concerns about a multibillion dollar Chinese loan offer to the Democratic Republic Congo. an international matter. "My husband is not secretary of state. I am," an obviously annoyed Clinton replied sharply. This small dust-up comes a week after the former president traveled to North Korea to secure the release of two arrested journalists Laura Ling and and Euna Lee. President Clinton literally stole the spotlight from his wife as she started her first trip to Africa. You know, Bill upstaged her and she's a bit miffed by that.

"You want me to tell you what my husband thinks?" she replied incredulously when the male student asked her what "Mr. Clinton" . . "If you want my opinion, I will tell you my opinion. I am not going to be channeling my husband," she said. The question was reportedly left unanswered as the moderator of the event quickly moved on. Actually, the question was lost in translation. The translator made a mistake and the student had wanted to know what President Obama thought of the deal. A State Department official told ABC News that the student went up to Clinton after the event and told her he was misquoted. Still, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost her cool for a moment when she felt Bill Clinton was about to take center stage again! I don't blame Mrs. Clinton for her response.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: President Obama Has Passed '3 a.m.' Test

George Stephanopoulos interviewed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton this morning on "This Week" and she said that President Barack Obama has "absolutely" answered questions she posed during the Democratic campaign about his lack of experience and ability to handle an international crisis. Gone are the days when she tried to plant a seed of doubt in the minds of the voters about then candidate Barack Obama's capabilities of assuming the presidency. I give Mrs. Clinton a lot of credit for her accomplishments on the campaign trail and the passion she brings to her current position as secretary of state.

In her first Sunday show interview since her presidential bid ended a year ago, I asked Clinton if Obama answered the questions she raised in her campaign's "3a.m." ad.

"Absolutely," Clinton told me in an exclusive "This Week" Sunday show interview-- her first as secretary of state.

"And, you know, the president in his public actions and demeanor, and certainly in private with me and with the national security team, has been strong, thoughtful, decisive, I think he is doing a terrific job," she said, "And it's an honor to serve with him."

Obama told Richard Wolffe that he had decided to offer State to Clinton during their primary battle. That came as a surprise to her.

"I never had any -- any dream, let alone inkling that I would end up in President Obama's cabinet," she told me. "I was looking forward to going back to the Senate and, frankly, going back to my life and representing New York, which I love. And I had no idea that he had a different plan in mind."

Clinton also deflected Obama's first pass."When he called and asked me to come see him, and we had our first conversation I said, 'you know, I really don't think I'm the person to do this, I want to go back to my life. I really feel like I owe it to the people of New York,'" Clinton said.

"And I gave him a bunch of other names of people who I thought would be great secretaries of state. But he was quite persistent and very persuasive. And, you know, ultimately it came down to my feeling that, number one, when your president asks you to do something for your country, you really need a good reason not to do it."

"Number two, if I had won and I had asked him to please help me serve our country, I would have hoped he would say yes," Clinton said, "And finally, I looked around our world and I thought, you know, we are in just so many deep holes that everybody had better grab a shovel and start digging out." Hillary Clinton, if she chooses to hit the campaign trail again for the presidency after Obama leaves office, will be in an enviable position, especially if she has tangible results from being the secretary of state. She cracked the glass ceiling once and will shatter it the next time around. Love her or hate her, Hillary Clinton is a force to be reckoned.

Wanda Sykes' Comedy Act at Correspondents' Dinner Mostly Funny, Controversial Jabs Against Rush Limbaugh, Hits Sean Hannity On Waterboarding

Well, Wanda Sykes will be in the news tomorrow and I am pretty sure she will be the first topic "GOP leader" Rush Limbaugh rants about on Monday. Personally, I have never been a big Wanda Sykes fan and she did not do herself much good tonight at the Correspondents' Dinner in Washington D. C. Her comedy was pitchy at times and some of her jokes were funny, some offensive, while others fell flat. What else did you expect to hear from Ms. Sykes? She is cutting-edge and a no-holds barred comedian. In essence, whoever booked her got what they deserved. She hit all the Obama naysayers squarely in the eyes -- Sean Hannity, Dick Cheney and yes, Rush Limbaugh, who she said was the 20th September 11th terrorists who missed the flight because he was strung out on Oxycontin. Ouch.

This routine will undoubtedly be criticized by the right wing and yes, Rush Limbaugh will rant about being called a terrorist on Monday morning. To his comments about his desire to see President Obama fail was met with a stinging and over-the-top response from Sykes -- "the President ought to look into treason against Rush Limbaugh and that he was no better than Osama bin Laden." She said she "hoped his kidneys failed." Ouch. That was a very uncomfortable moment for the President and First Lady and I am sure this will stick in the minds of many. Sykes also sensed that she had shocked the crowd with that remark. She said, "Too much? But you're laughing on the inside..." In actuality, it wasn't funny at all. But the White House Correspondents' Association should have known that Wanda Sykes was a very tart-tongued comedian who goes for the jugular.

Let's backtrack a little. Sykes started off her routine speaking admiringly of the president and then wife Michelle, and lobbed gently funny, but soft hits their way -- about Obama's basketball prowess, and Michelle's bare arms and their history-making presidency.

"This is amazing, you're the first black president. I'm proud to be able to say. But that's unless you screw up. And then it's going to be, 'What's up with that half-white guy? Who voted for the mulatto. What the hell?' " She also poked fun at Nancy Pelosi, saying it was the House Speaker's idea for Obama and VP Joe Biden to grab hamburgers for lunch the other day. "You guys can't hang out out together. What'd she say, 'Why don't you boys go out and get a bite'? You know she was a Hillary supporter."

Then the "oh my God moment started" as her tone changed dramatically and she started hitting on former President George W. Bush. "I gotta say, he broke a lot of stuff. You thought you were moving into a new home, and you've got a fixer-upper. And there are a lot of things that need to be fixed." About the criticism Obama received from animal rights activists concerning his choice of a pedigreed pup," Sykes said, "The man has to rescue a country that's been abused by its previous owner. Let him have a dog."

On the subject of Dick Cheney, Sykes commented, "Oh my god, that's a scary man. Scares me to death. I tell my kids if two cars pull up, and one has a stranger, and the other car has Dick Cheney, you get in the car with the stranger." And she criticized the former VP for "trying to defend torture".

Of course, the right wing will find a reason to blame President Obama, as evidenced from the fact that he laughed during her Oxycontin jab, but again, the blame for anything Sykes said that was shocking lies at the feet of the WHCA and the folks who didn't bother to do their homework before they asked her to perform. Wanda Sykes says what's on her mind, with no reservations. Well, I guess she won't be the headliner at any other political functions in Washington D. C. in the near future.

Kirsten Gillibrand, a second-term congresswoman from upstate NY to fill Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's Senate seat after the hot mess that ensued from Carolyn Kennedy abruptly withdrew her name from consideration. Gov. Paterson and his aides created more drama about Carolyn Kennedy's withdrawal and that was terrible. They knee-capped her in a major way, which I suspect will come back to bite the governor if he decides to seek re-election.

The 42-year-old Hudson Valley Democrat will reportedly be named by the governor at an announcement Friday in Albany. Gillibrand was considered one of the top three or four contenders in Paterson's secretive selection process, where the front-runners were considered to be Kennedy and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Of course, Ms. Gillibrand did not escape the wrath of the other contenders, led by more senior politicians, including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who criticized her support of more conservative issues such as gun ownership rights was out of step with most New York Democrats.

Gillibrand is a proven vote getter in an eastern New York district that sprawls from the mid-Hudson Valley to north of Albany. She defeated a long-term Republican incumbent in 2006 and won re-election last year by a wide margin.

Gillibrand is married with a son and worked as a lawyer before challenging Republican John Sweeney in 2006 to represent New York's 20th District. Her upset win came after a police report was leaked shortly before the election that showed Sweeney's wife had called 911 in what appeared to be a domestic violence incident. Gillibrand is considered one of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, a stance that reflects her largely rural district. She voted last year against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout bill.

Gillibrand graduated from Dartmouth College in 1988 and earned a law degree at UCLA in 1991. She is the daughter of Albany lobbyist Douglas Rutnik. Source: NY Daily News
