Nyasia Pryear-Yard, 17 Year-Old Honor Student & Aspiring Model, Shot to Death at Teenage Dance Club

It is a real shame that young people cannot go out and enjoy themselves instead of getting hurt. Nyasia Pryear-Yard, 17 year-old honors student and aspiring model, was shot and killed at a teenage dance club in Brooklyn early Sunday morning. Two others were reportedly injured.
Pryear-Yard, a straight-A senior at Nazareth Regional High School, was fatally shot around 3:15 a.m. while dancing at Elks Plaza on Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. "She was a gifted child," said her father, Alberto Yard, 40, a court officer in Kings County civil court. She was pronounced dead at the hospital around 4 a.m. Cops said she suffered a gunshot wound to the face. Two other teenagers, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, were grazed by bullets during the gunfire and listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.

Geared at the under-age set, the club advertises that patrons don't need identification. Before things turned violent early Sunday, Nyasia was dancing to reggae music and having a great time, said her cousin, Janesha Grant, 18, who was with her at the club.

Janesha said she heard several teenage boys threatening to shoot up the place and was trying to warn club owners when bullets began to fly. "All I hear is, 'pa-pow! pa-pow!'" Janesha said. "Everybody scatters."

But Janesha went back to make sure her cousin was okay -- and saw her on the ground, where emergency workers attempted to revive her. "They said they had a pulse, then they didn't have it anymore," she said, still in shock. Police have made no arrests Sunday morning. Source: NY Daily News

This is a travesty and I hope the young thugs who did this are caught. Seems like the management of the club needs to start checking bags because of what happened to this young lady. The year is off to a horrible start, where crime is concerned and that is a real shame. This girl did not have to die. This was senseless and should not have happened. Here's my parting question, what club just caters to teenagers and don't even check them for contraband. Why was that club open until the wee hours of the morning knowing that teenagers ought to be home at that time of the night? Seems to me like they should be held liable for what happened to this girl.
