Dyron L. Hart Pleads Guilty to Posing as a White Supremacist to Send Death Threats by Facebook

Dyron L. Hart, an African American, should be sentenced to the maximum time in prison as allowed by the law for posing as a white supremacist in order to send a death threat across state lines by Facebook.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Hart, 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to making a threat in November 2008. He admitted creating a name and using a white supremacist’s photo to pose as a white man who planned to kill blacks because Barack Obama had been elected president.

He was originally charged with threatening three black students at Nicholls State, where he had attended one semester. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count. He sent the threats from a computer in Poplarville, Mississippi.

The maximum sentence is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine and he will be sentenced November 18. I have a few choice words for this idiot -- five years maximum in prison.

Myspace Said to Release 30% of its Workforce

According to CNNMoney.com, My Space is releasing 30% of its employees due to a decline in advertisement. The social networking site was at one time the world's largest social networking site and is now struggling to compete with other social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

"Simply put, our staffing levels were bloated and hindered our ability to be an efficient and nimble team-oriented company," said MySpace Chief Executive Owen Van Natta. "Our intent is to return to an environment of innovation that is centered on our user and our product."

Is this the beginning of the social network battle for dominance on the internet; or is Myspace a victim of the current economy and the first of social networking sites to show signs of the current market?

Myspace is a little more geared towards a younger audience with downloads and streaming videos, while Facebook is geared towards a more broader range audience with many diverse applications. The downsizing is said to help Myspace focus on its niche and later return to the top of social networking.

Rusty DePass, GOP Activist says Escaped Gorilla from Riverbanks Zoo, was "Ancestor" of First Lady Michelle Obama

More right wing hate mongering and name calling. According to WIS-TV, A state Republican activist has admitted to and apologized for calling a gorilla that escaped from the Riverbanks Zoo Friday, an ancestor of First Lady Michelle Obama. former state Senate candidate Rusty DePass responded with a comment to an image posted by an aide to state Attorney General Henry McMaster on Facebook describing Friday morning's gorilla escape at Columbia's Riverbanks Zoo. He commented "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."

Of course, when confronted, DePass said that he was sorry if he offended anyone, but the comments were made in jest. Really? How would he like for to be called a gorilla? You may not like Michelle Obama, but she deserves the same respect as all the other first ladies in our country's history. Then he had to take a low blow, based totally on a lie. He also said that "the comments were hers, not mine," saying Mrs. Obama made statements in the media recently to the media in which she stated "we are all descendants of apes." Of course, no one can find these comments anywhere. This should come as no surprise to anyone that the right wing will stop at nothing to smear President Obama and his wife.

Do you want your doctor Twittering during surgery?

A Chicago-area hospital is taking the application of social networking to a whole new level by Twittering and posting YouTube and Facebook updates during surgery:

"Sherman Hospital in Elgin reportedly became the first hospital in Illinois to Twitter surgery Thursday when staffers posted live updates and video of a laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure from inside the operating room on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Dr. Raja Chatterji, the presiding surgeon, answered questions about the procedure and the decision to track it live here. Source: Huffington Post

While I think it's great that "live" updates are being given during surgery, I wonder if this comes at a cost to patient care. Are they hiring additional staff to manage this technology, or is this an added responsibility of existing staff.

If the latter is true, then I must admit that I would not want my surgical team being distracted by sending tweets and other social networking updates while I'm under the knife.

What do you think, is it okay if your surgeon sends tweets during surgery?

Betsey Ramsdale, Beaver Dam Middle School Teacher, Placed on Administrative Leave for Facebook Page Picture With Rifle Trained at Camera

Facebook made it in the news again as middle school teacher Betsey Ramsdale is put on administrative leave by Beaver Dam school officials for her photographed with a rifle trained on a camera on her Facebook page. It is amazing that people don't realize that there are millions of people on Facebook and it could work against you, especially a teacher having a profile picture such as this.

Apparently, the Facebook photo was brought to the attention of school district officials by a concerned staff member at Beaver Dam Middle School. Ramsdale's biography on the school district website states she is in her first year of teaching at the middle school. Department of Public Instruction records show Ramsdale has been licensed to teach since 1996. People have to be careful what they post on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and all the other social media websites. You never know who is watching you and what the repercussions will be.

'Impeach Barack Obama' Groups Pop up on Facebook, Membership Brisk

Barack Obama has not even been sworn in yet as the 44th president of the United States, but groups are popping up online calling for his impeachment. Totally ridiculous!

The "Impeach Barack Obam" group on Facebook group has attracted more than 700 members. Another Facebook group of the same name has 160 members and urges others to join because "we might as well get a head start on the impeachment of Obama." It said that "there are a lot of Americans out there that do not fully understand the concept of Socialism or Communism which is why they've elected Obama as president."

There is yet another Facebook group, "Impeach Barack Hussein Obama." It states that Obama "has voiced support for various unconstitutional programs such as the assault weapons ban, universal healthcare, and various schemes for wealth distribution." It says "what are we going to do about it? IMPEACH HIM!"

Though Barack Obama has some way to go, however, to equal the number of "Impeach George Bush" groups on Facebook, which lists at least 95 such groups with varying membership, nonetheless this is ridiculous. The guy isn't even in office yet.
