Zell Miller, Former Senator (D-Ga.) Says Rahm Emanuel "Needs to Put Gorilla Glue on Obama's Chair to Keep Him in the Oval Office"

The dead has arisen. Well, ex-senator Zell Miller suddenly popped up only to criticize President Obama. He told a group of mostly Republican lawmakers at the American Legislative Exchange Council, that the Rahm Emanuel, the White House Chief of Staff "needs to put Gorilla Glue on Obama's chair to keep him in the Oval Office. Er, Zell, all Presidents travel overseas. It's called diplomacy, which he seems to know nothing about.

"Our globe-trotting president needs to stop and take a break and quit gallivanting around," said Miller, a Democrat well known for zinging his own party.

He had more to add to his rant. He also said during his speech, that President Obama's decision to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay was "nuts" and likened the federal stimulus package to a Paris Hilton spending spree. Right Zell, the stimulus package is just like a Paris Hilton shopping spree! Please.

Democratic State Rep. Tyrone Brooks, who leads the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, said in a media interview that he wasn't bothered by Miller's comment, but that it came a few years too late. "It would have been much more appropriate that he suggest that Karl Rove used some Gorilla Glue on George Bush and Dick Cheney," said the Atlanta Democrat.

You will recall that Zell Miller sold out the Democratic Party in 2004 when he took the podium at the Republican National Convention and accused his party of being soft on national security. I wouldn't say he's racist. He's just plain rude. He won praise from Georgia's black leaders during his two terms in office for appointing minorities to high-ranking positions, including his naming of Leah Ward Sears to the state Supreme Court. She later became the first black female to serve as chief judge of any state's top court.

RNC Head Michael Steele Apologizes for Calling Rush Limbaugh "an Entertainer" During an Appearance of D.L. Hughley's Show

To the left, to the left.... That's basically what's happening in the Republican Party when conservative nutjob Rush Limbaugh is criticized. An apology always comes. So, Rahm Emanuel was absolutely right when he said that Limbaugh is the head of the GOP. I cannot believe that Michael Steele, who recently made some comments about Limbaugh while on the "D. L. Hughley Breaks the News, " has apologized to the Almighty Rush.
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says he has reached out to Rush Limbaugh to tell him he meant no offense when he referred to the popular conservative radio host as an “entertainer” whose show can be “incendiary.” “My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.” The dust-up comes at a time when top Democrats are trying to make Limbaugh the face of the Republican Party, in part by using ads funded by labor. Americans United for Change sent a fund-raising e-mail Monday that begins: “The Republican Party has turned into the Rush Limbaugh Party.”

Steele told CNN host D.L. Hughley in an interview aired Saturday night: “Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh — his whole thing is entertainment. He has this incendiary — yes, it's ugly.” Steele, who won a hard-fought chairman's race on Jan. 30, told Politico he telephoned Limbaugh after his show on Monday afternoon and hoped that they would connect soon. “I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren’t what I was thinking,” Steele said. "It was one of those things where I thinking I was saying one thing, and it came out differently. What I was trying to say was a lot of people … want to make Rush the scapegoat, the bogeyman, and he’s not." “I’m not going to engage these guys and sit back and provide them the popcorn for a fight between me and Rush Limbaugh,” Steele added. “No such thing is going to happen. … I wasn’t trying to slam him or anything.” On Monday’s show, Limbaugh reacted both to the comment and to the assertion on CBS’s “Face the Nation” by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel that the radio host is “the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.” Source: Politico
Well, Michael Steele punked out. As a result of his actions, he is now a very diminished leader of the Republican National Committee. First of all, I took offense when he excused Limbaugh as an entertainer. I am no fan of this guy, but since when is it an automatic disqualifier from political life to be an entertainer? Wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor before he became the governor of California and later served as the President of the USA for eight years? If you can't choose your words carefully and speak with some semblance of knowledge and diplomacy, then Steele is simply not ready to be in such a leadership role. Also, I am still wondering why every Republican that says something contrary to Rush Limbaugh ends up apologizing? What gives? If Limbaugh is the new voice of the GOP, then they are in way more trouble than they care to admit.

Rahm Emanuel Reportedly Accepts Chief of Staff Position In Barack Obama's Administration

Well, Barack Obama has reportedly filled his first high level position in his upcoming administration and I am very happy with his choice of Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff. Emanuel has a reputation of being a wily, aggressive West Wing strategist under President Bill Clinton. I must applaud Barack Obama for his choice of a fine public servant. This move will, undoubtedly, send a clear signal that Obama is eager to work with the Israeli government. The move also reinforces Obama's desire to work with the Congress and launch an aggressive agenda that will focus on the economy, taxes, energy, education and health care.

Obama has also decided on longtime aide Robert Gibbs as his White House press secretary. Rahm has been given a powerful position. "The chief" is sometimes considered as the second most powerful person in Washington. The job has vast authority, as the boss of the hundreds of aides who work directly for the president, a public face of the administration on television, and a negotiator and salesman on Capitol Hill.

Emanuel, 49, is the fourth-ranking House Democratic leader, with the title Democratic Caucus Chair. He is also a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which is among the most desirable assignments in Congress. As chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Emanuel was the relentless architect of the Democrats' House takeover in 2006, and some Republicans said the choice sends a partisan signal at time when Obama is promising a new politics.

Rahm is a fighter and will be a true champion for Barack Obama. His mastery on Capitol Hill will help speed his proposals at a time when money is tight and the nation's problems are great. Emanuel has a hard-nosed style, and is known for aggressively working the press. He has working relationships with many congressional Republicans, including Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fla.), a rising GOP star who said after his reelection this week that he plans to leave his No. 3 post in the party's House leadership.

I like Emanuel because he is known as a centrist and a pragmatic dealmaker. That is exactly what we need to navigate the treacherous waters. Under Clinton, he helped engineer passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which is opposed by the party's left wing. From his official biography: "Emanuel began his career with the consumer rights organization Illinois Public Action. He worked on Paul Simon’s 1984 election to the U.S. Senate and in 1989 served as a senior advisor and chief fundraiser for Richard M. Daley. Emanuel served as a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. After leaving the White House, Emanuel returned to Chicago to serve as a managing director at a leading global investment bank. "Emanuel graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1981, and received a Master’s Degree in Speech and Communication from Northwestern University in 1985. He is a resident of Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood where he and his wife are raising three children." Way to go Barack. You have made a wise choice.
