Chanthy Mao Charged with Murder in Stabbing Deaths of Her Two Children, Savann & Savanna Mao in Their South Philly Home

What the heck is going on in the news? Chanthy Mao, a South Philadelphia mother with a history of mental illness, has been charged with murder after stabbing her two children to death. Mao, also known as Sotheary Mao, confessed to stabbing Savann Mao, 8, and Savanna Mao, 12, police told NBC Philadelphia. If this woman attempted to commit suicide last year and was recently hospitalized for a mental evaluation, why was she left alone with her children? It seems that the mother, who migrated from Cambodia, was not only a threat to herself but to her children as well. This could have been avoided.

Marie Moore, 44, Kills Son, Mitchell, at Shooting Range in Casselberry, Then Turns Gun on Herself, She Had a History of Mental Illness

Can someone please tell me what is going on? Not a day goes by when we don't hear of some gun violence, oftentimes with a tragic end, in the news. Well, today, the latest horrific deaths come to us courtesy of Marie Moore, 44, who fatally shot her son, Mitchell, 20, and then herself at a central Florida's Shoot Straight range.

According to media reports, shooters in an adjacent lane said the mother and son seemed to be getting along fine. The police said that a security video shows Moore walk up behind her son, point a revolver at the back of his head and fire a single shot. She then put the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger. The son died at the scene, and the mother died later at the hospital. Family members told police that Moore had a history of mental illness. Okay, so here's the kicker -- history of mental illness. Then could someone please explain how this woman allowed to even touch a gun? Crazy. Another senseless murder and another crazy person taking an innocent life.
