CNN Poll Finds 1 in 4 Southerners Sympathize with the Confederacy in Civil War

Why am I not surprised that a recent CNN poll found four in 10 Southerners sympathize with the Confederacy's position in the Civil War? Well, the Confederacy didn't stand for anything good for blacks in this country, so excuse me for being less than cheerful.
Overall, less than a quarter of respondents from all geographic areas said they still side with the South. The poll also highlighted differences in views over the reasons behind the war.

Overall, 54 per cent said they believe the war was over slavery, while 42 per cent said slavery wasn't the main reason. Those percentages didn't change much in the North or the South. But views on the role of slavery in the conflict did correlate to political party and race.
