Romanian police arrest Ionut Adrian Tanasoaia as the lone suspect in fatal beating of African American professional basketball player Chauncey Hardy in Giurgiu bar Saturday night.
Romanian police have arrested
Ionut Adrian Tanasoaia (or George Ionut Tanasoaia) in the beating death of U.S. basketball player
Chauncey Hardy, who was savagely beaten at a
Giurgiu bar Saturday night. According to
Mediafax news agency, Tanasoaia, 25 attacked Hardy because he wanted to dance with his girlfriend. Hardy sustained severe head injuries in the beating and also suffered two heart attacks, while comatose. He died Sunday.
Basketball Federation president Carmen Tocala said Hardy had not had any alcohol in the club. “He wasn’t a drinker or a drug abuser, he was just a kid who had come to play basketball in Romania straight from school. He was probably making 1,000 Euro a month, which he sent to his family back home,” Tocala told Mediafax. Source: Bucharest Herald
I find it very strange that the report from the Bucharest Herald is saying other players from the team who were with Hardy in the club could say they didn't know what happened. Wow, could this be a no-snitch move on their part for some strange reason, such as a mafia-related beating? If this young man was so savagely beaten, I am sure they had to have seen and heard the ruckus it caused.
