Forbes Magazine's list of "Most Powerful Black Women in America" does a disservice to young black women by putting Beyoncé ahead of accomplished black business women and leaders such as First Lady Michelle Obama & Condoleeza Rice.
Forbes Magazine recently released it's list of the "
Most Famous Black Women in America" and I am puzzled as to why Beyoncé is in first place and
First Lady Michelle Obama comes in third. Um
Beyoncé's claim to fame to gyrating in skimpy outfits and that's certainly not worth emulating by our young black girls. It's a sad commentary that the hidden message in this list is that the accomplishment of black women like
Ursula Burns, chairman & CEO of Xerox Corporation,
Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State,
and
Ruth Simmons, Brown University President, are portrayed as less important, though they got to their positions through hard work, getting a solid education and yes, not using their bodies to sell records. I'm sorry, but Forbes Magazine is sending the wrong message. Life is more than jumping on stage and gyrating wildly in a skimpy outfit and an enormous weave.
