HATE CRIME: Michael J. Feeney, of Worcester, Mass., was accused of spewing vile racial slurs at two young black boys while tossing a glass bottle at them.
According to the News Telegram, police officers James Wickes and Daniel Gilbert spoke with a neighbor who said the man had thrown a bottle at the boys, ages 9 and 6. The youths were riding scooters past the man’s home last Saturday.
The neighbor told police she heard the man — later identified as Mr. Feeney — yell out racial epithets along with some profanity. Mr. Feeney allegedly tossed the bottle from his third-floor deck, the officer wrote in his report. One of the boys suffered a cut on his hand, and they both ran off.
A short time later a man in a wheelchair went by Mr. Feeney’s home. “Michael yelled something at the man in the wheelchair, then threw a white plastic chair from the porch at him,” Officer Wickes wrote. The man in the wheelchair was not hurt.
Neighbors said they continue to have a problem with Mr. Feeney. Officer Wickes said he has had dozens of similar complaints about him over several years. Police found glass and a chair in the road. Source
Feeney was released on $250 bond. That's laughable. He'll offend someone else again and the next time he may not walk away without being hurt. The way to discourage such hatred isn't a slap on the wrist. You can't fight discrimination by discriminating and harming innocent children in the process.
