Tayshana "Chicken" Murphy, High School Basketball Star, Fatally Shot at Harlem Housing Project

Tayshana "Chicken" Murphy, 18, was fatally shot on Sunday in her New York City apartment building after she and her friends got into an altercation with a group of young people. According to media reports, Murphy and her friends were at a party at at the Grant Houses at 3170 Broadway in Morningside Heights in Harlem about 4:15 a.m. Sunday morning when the other group arrived and an argument ensued. Um, nothing good ever happens in the projects in the wee hours of the morning. Let's just keep it real. 

It is really unfortunate that this young woman had to lose her life. Tayshana Murphy was a student at Murry Bergtraum High School and was one of the top high school basketball players in the country. No suspects are in custody and police have no motive for the killing. She was wearing a hoodie and may have been mistaken for a man as she tried to flee the scene, the NY Post said. The word today is that Tayshana Murphy was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
