DE Police Sgt. Joseph Szczerba Stabbed to Death During Pursuit, Suspect in Police Custody

Another police officer has been killed in the line of duty. According to Officer Down Memorial Page, Sgt. Joseph Szczerba, an 18 year veteran of the New Castle County, DE , police department was killed in the line of duty Friday morning. He was chasing the suspect a little after midnight in the Penn Acres Park section of New Castle County when he was stabbed to death in the neck, after struggling with the perpetrator. He was rushed to a local hospital where he died. Two other officers were injured in the incident, but they are expected to recover. The suspect is in police custody.
