MO Police Officer Evan Burns Killed After Being Struck by Driver of Stolen Car

Caruthersville MO police officer Evan Burns killed after suspect in stolen vehicle broadsides his patrol car during pursuit.

Police Officer Evan Burns died after being struck by a stolen vehicle as he laid spike strips during a pursuit shortly after 12:30 a.m. in Caruthersville, Mo.  According to Officer Down Memorial Page, sheriff's deputies from the Pemiscot County Sheriff's office had started pursuing a stolen SUV on I-55 that was being driven by a man wanted for assault.

Officer Burns and another officer were deploying the strips when the vehicle approached, struck the first police car, injuring that officer, and then broadsided Officer Burns' vehicle, killing him.

The driver of the stolen vehicle is now facing murder and assault charges. Officer Burns, who is survived by a one year old son, served with the Caruthersville Police Department for two years,
