People are yelling "Jesus has the power." There are two men and a woman dancing like wingnuts in front of the dais. One guy looking like a real pimp in a red shirt, white pants, red shoes and long hair won't sit. He keeps walking back and forth in the front. Crazy. Now one is lying on the floor with his face down and more people are dancing, some can't even move. Someone says "Oh, it's on." People moving to the front and throwing their offerings in the baskets. The singing is non-stop. Long said a few words and the ushers handed out some white buckets. Presumably to either collect more offerings or communion receptacles. Not really sure.
Bishop Long is praying. Wants to bring kids going back to school and college will come to the altar. He said the academy still has openings and registration is still open. Payment plan has been changed. He said the school is fully SACS accredited. Funny. Seems like people are looking elsewhere.
Text taken from 1 Samuel 30 -- revisiting this chapter a year and a few months before, Long said. He said God has dropped some things into his spirit. David and his men came to the city, Ziklag, and there it was burned with fire. Their wives, sons and daughters had been taken captive. David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept until they had no more power..... David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him.....David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. Then David said to the priest "please bring an ephod here to me. David inquired of the Lord, shall I pursue this troop, shall I overtake them? He answered and said to him pursue and you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover it all." Pursue, overcame and recovered it all, Long recited.
Long said David had found himself in a serious crisis. He's laying a foundation to equate himself to David. Watch where this is going. "All of their children and wives had been taken captive, property repossessed and when the men returned they saw the camp smoking and burned." Have you had anything ripped off you in this season as you were journeying and moving in the things God ordained for you and you returned and have come back and seen that the enemy has made an assault on our family? He said you paid for a house that was worth $250,000 but now, you're still paying for something worth a lot less. He said he is talking to the 'no more tears people' because that's when God can use you.
The grace of the matter is that the enemy acted out of order. Everything you lost was not destroyed. It was supposed to be destroyed because no army ever invades a camp without killing and stealing everything, but you don't get it back. He said God allowed them to get it but it was destroyed. With His grace, if you can get up and go after, you can get everything back. David encouraged himself, not by motivational speakers, but in the Lord. He said when you started praising, it was the spirit of the living God putting running, dancing in your spirit. Motivational speakers can't help you with everything. David got in prayer position. You just don't encourage yourself and get in the presence of God and do nothing. You have to talk to God. I don't care if folk have turned against me, it's time for me to inquire, he added.
"What ever Devil has been messing with you have to be tired," Long said. He said in a double dip recession he is talking about a double amount of annointing. He said people will ask how you are prospering in this recession and you will say you inquired of the Lord. David said, "I'm going to get my wife back, to get my things back..... How ironic he should say "going to get my wife back." He said "God told him to tell you have some dead weight, talking like they want to get their stuff back but they are holding you back. You need to get yourself in a swift place. Everybody ain't sick and tired like you." He said tell that person, "I have cried too many tears not gonna miss my season because you're too tired." "You better not grow too weary. In due season you shall reap if you faint not." He's acting like he's riding a horse. He said you get who is with you and go after your stuff, your destiny, your dream. "Chase down your healing." He says "I declare you are in a season of unusual season." He asked if God would not visit us this morning and not take us somewhere? He said "God is in this holy temple." He said somebody ride with me on their way to prosperity, on their way to healing. He said God gave him a word. "He told me I will recover. The people are screaming again. Like a cult.
Long puts on a robe and is jumping and dancing saying he's going after "his stuff." Showing his muscles again. He's in a tight blue t-shirt and now wearing a sleeveless robe. He said once you get a word about how you're going to be blessed, you are so focused on the prosperity, you miss people you can bless on the way. The text said "there was an Egyptian on the side of the road, had been there for two days wounded, had nothing to eat, nothing to drink for three days. Here comes David and the 400 on their way to get his stuff. He said you know your neighbor is hungry and you keep going to get your stuff. That grieves God. David wasn't the one who stopped, the men stopped and took what supplies they had for the journey." He said your "little bit is more than enough for some folks." Why ain't Bishop doing that? "I am to equip for the work of the...." He didn't finish that thought. He said he's doing his thing. He said God expects you to be nonjudgmental help to someone else.
The wounded Egyptian was with the camp who had looted the camp and took the children & wives. David asked him if he could show him where they were. David said he would not turn him over. Long asked if it wasn't amazing they didn't need a lawyer to draw up papers. He said that's when Christians were Christians. He said there are certain details you are only going to get from folk you help. He said this is not the time to pass folk up.
David forgot what he learned from the wilderness running from Saul, he said. He said this time he didn't leave anyone to guard the camp. "God said he allowed your camp, your finances, your family, your children to be taken captive. God said it was never my intention for you to lose it. What you learn in the wilderness. What you learn in your hard times, you use as I prosper you." He said I am going to give all back but don't you leave it unwatched again. Don't you ever leave where someone can come. He said there is no television or computers in his children's room because that's the point of entry of the Devil. God told him to tell congregation "He is giving it all back to you." Verse 16: "when he had brought him down there to the enemy, they were spread out all over the land eating and drinking and dancing." They were partying because of the spoils they had. He said he has been to a few parties where they got wild and someone called the po-po. Those parties were greater than great. He said this morning before he spoke the word, "you killed Satan's party." He said count it all joy when you fall into trials....the attack that has come on you was not to destroy but to put you in "I don't lack nothing zone." Everything great or small you have recovered all. Give God a praise....." The church went wild.
Long said he took his youngest child to college and now all his children are gone. He said he told his wife she can't go to college, she has to come back. If you ask me, this was much of the same BS I have been hearing emanating from the pulpit at New Birth since the sexual coercion allegations first broke when B.J. Bernstein filed a lawsuit on behalf of Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris, Maurice Robinson and Anthony Flagg. Bishop Long has the hubris to compare himself in a roundabout way to great men of the Bible like David. He couldn't begin to walk in the shoes of King David, but the people of New Birth who drank the Eddie L. Long Kool-Aid won't see the truth if it's staring them in the faces, as it has. We'll keep watching this train wreck unfold. Long is conveniently missing the point that David was punished by God for his actions. Gay Sex, Lies and the Gospel according to Bishop Eddie L. Long -- I'll take my chances steering clear of that church....
