County police were summoned to the 600 block of Wood Street around 9 a.m. after the mother of a man who lived there received an alarming text message from him and drove to the house, said police spokesman Lt. J.D. Batten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Nina Thompson and her children. This is an unspeakable tragedy that could have been avoided. May their souls rest in peace. Domestic violence is closer than you think. It could be happening next door to you. It is often borne in silence and shrouded because of shame, but it shouldn't be that way.
As police were talking with her outside, "they heard a single gunshot from inside the home," Batten said. "Right now all indications are that this was a murder suicide — that the male shot and killed the other three persons and then shot himself as the officers were talking to his mother."
