Louisiana Insurance Investigators Rhett Jeansonne & Kim Sledge Shot & Killed Trying to Collect Information from Lavergne's Insurance Agency

SHOCK: Two veteran Louisiana insurance investigators, Rhett Jeansonne and Kim Sledge, were shot and killed Tuesday afternoon as they tried to collect information from an agent and a man who barricaded himself inside Lavergne's Insurance Agency in the city of Ville Platte, when the shooting occurred, media reports said.

More than 100 officers including a SWAT team and negotiators have surrounded the business and police believe only one person is inside, Hammons said.

According to a story from KATC-TV, the fraud department in 2009 fined Lavergne's Insurance Agency $16,500 and suspended the license of agent John Melvin Lavergne for six months. The department determined Lavergne provided fraudulent proofs of vehicle insurance several times to the Lafayette Department of Motor Vehicles. Source

This is pretty shocking. People can do some crazy things and this just shows the cover-up is far worse than the crime. Why barricade yourself in the building? Why not take your punishment like a man? If the shooter was John Melvin Lavergne, he's in a lot of trouble now because he's facing two murder charges and a litany of other charges. Why not conduct your business honestly to avoid any type of investigation to begin with?
