Rob Redding Jr. reporting Bishop Eddie L. Long settled gay sexual coercion lawsuits for nearly $25 million and gave private apology, instead of the $15 million previously reported.
The
Redding News Review is reporting that
Bishop Eddie L. Long's settlement to settle lawsuits brought by
Spencer LeGrande, Anthony Flagg, Maurice Robinson and
Jamal Parris was more than the $15 million previously reported. Rob Redding is reporting that the settlement was nearly $25 million and came with a
private apology to the young men. What's interesting is his comment that "the church has been paying these four young men $40,000 annually each year before any charges were filed." I wonder how they passed an audit with that and what was the explanation to the auditor about those four "salaries."
The men are to divide $2.2 million equally and then receive $400,000 in payments until the money is paid out over the next 20 years, the source said. The final figure comes to $22 million for the four men and $2.8 million for the plaintiffs attorneys. Source
If these numbers are valid, then it begs the question of why Bishop Long is pulling the wool over the eyes of his congregation by seeking more money to plant churches in
Birmingham and
Denver, while thumbing his nose at them where the lawsuit/settlements are concerned? Don't the members of the church deserve answers?
