Cristian Fernandez may become the youngest person given life sentence after he murdered his two year old brother, David Galarriago.
SHOCK:
Cristian Fernandez is facing the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison and he's only 12. He could become the youngest person given a
life sentence after being charged as an adult over the murder of his two year old brother,
David Galarriago. According to the Daily Mail, prosecutor
Angela Corey said, 'We have to protect the public from this young man' and recommended he face trial as an adult.
If Fernandez were charged as a juvenile and convicted he would be free by the time he is 21. Fernandez is alleged to have beaten his younger brother David Galarriago to death at their home in Jacksonville, Florida, in March. The two-year-old died from a fractured skull that caused bleeding on the brain. He died two days after being admitted to a hospital. An autopsy showed the injuries were caused with blunt force trauma consistent with being punched in the head.
Fernandez had previously assaulted his brother and broken his leg. Prosecutors decided to charge Fernandez as an adult rather than a juvenile defender after reviewing his history of violence and behavior. Source
If the child's mother,
Biannela Susana, knew he was a threat, why did she leave the younger child around him and better yet, why didn't she seek that type of intervention to find out why he was so destructive and violent? It should be noted that she was also charged in the murder of her son. She was charged with negligent homicide. I don't think the boy should be given a life sentence because his mother played a great role in creating the "monster" he has become. I believe he can be rehabilitated with the proper intervention. It should be the mother who gets the life sentence, not the child.
