Canada In Negotiations to Set Up Military Base in Jamaica, but What's Really in it for the Caribbean Island?

Canadian forces to set up military base in Jamaica to "better position its military to participate in international missions, but what's in it for Jamaica?

The Canadian government is reportedly in talks with the Jamaican government to set up a military base there. The obvious question that comes to my mind is what's in it for Jamaica? According to the Jamaica Gleaner, Canada wants to better position its military to participate in international missions. Really? No seriously, what's the real reason and what's really in it for Jamaica? They are seeking to set up bases in several countries under the Operational Support Hubs Network.
Canada's Defence Minister Peter MacKay was reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation last Thursday as saying, "As we look out into the future, what we obviously try to do is anticipate where and when we will be needed, but it's difficult with any certainty to make those plans, without talking to other countries, without doing internal examinations."

He added, "The focus of the planning, let's be clear, is our capability for expeditionary participation in international missions ... . We are big players in NATO. We're a country that has become a go-to nation in response to situations like what we're seeing in Libya, what we saw in Haiti."

Mackay also reportedly said, "We are constantly working within that paradigm of countries, to see where we can bring that niche capability to bear. It's part of planning and preparation, in conjunction with our equipment needs." Source: Jamaica Gleaner
It should be noted that the article also states, the talks have already been completed and they are in talks with Kuwait, Senegal, Kenya or Tanzania, Singapore and South Korea. I have to keep asking the question of why Jamaica and what's in it for the island that has been grappling with high crime and unemployment rates, among other issues? Are the Canadians going to come in and take over the Jamaican airspace, since the island doesn't have an air force of any type?
